You'd be bitter too if you had to watch the Red Sox every night. This team has been frustrating (and just plain unfun) to watch all year, save for Eduardo Rodriguez' two starts. 2004, 2007 and 2013 are nice and take the sting away from a lot of past failures, but they have no bearing on this season and onwards.

Hunter should be an all star - Jeter made it hitting worse, he is best player on the #1 team in the division and for being like 55 yr old. Or at least top 6 in votes.

And Cruz is a DH, not an OF

Sorry, but Torii Hunter hasn't done anything this year to put him in ASG consideration. He's a corner OFer with a 111 OPS+ and he's been a well below average fielder for several years now.

Helluva career though. Struggled in his first few years (batted .266/.313/.391 (76 OPS+) in his first 241 games from 97-00). And then he went on to be an above average/All-Star caliber player for over a decade. Gotta be patient with young players. ;-)

Fair enough. All-Star voting is a sham, and there have been far less deserving players than Hunter. Especially with the mandatory "everybody's a winner!!!!" rep bullshit. Mark Redman in 2006 is a wonderful example.

Over $60 million in payroll on the disabled list (Verlander, V-mart, Avila, Nathan), plus the losses of Scherzer and Porcello, and it's clear that they don't have the organizational depth to cover those losses. (Though one might argue Avila and Nathan are addition by subtraction.) The minor league system is producing nil, and that has become painfully apparent these last few weeks.

I'm not normally one for people living in the past either, I tell Dumb Doug that all the time. But it's a little different for the Sox and Giants when you have combined for half of the rings for last 12 years.

At least that always provides hope.

Hard to believe their rotation is in the shape it is right now. It wasn't that long ago they were running Verlander/Scherzer/Fister/Sanchez/Porcello. And Fister and Smyly.

One thing is for certain if he does make it he will have earned by actually being wanted on the team.
