Today is 49er Friday at my job. I came up with the idea to support our guys.

What are your predictions?

Niners 24 Giants 16
Justin Smith will be the MVP
Gore 90 yards rushing
Crabtree 5 cathes
VD 7 catches
Defense prevails once again in a emotional win.

It'll come down to Akers needing to hit a 37 yard FG to win the game. So get your booze set up. :drink:

With Akers sending the 49ers to the Super Bowl

27-24, 49ers!
49ers block a 49 yard field goal attempt and they go to the Super Bowl

my biggest concern is, if we get a lead will we go conservative allowing the giants to stay in? not sure if vernon can have 2 games in a row where he doesn't drop anything. crabtree is gonna have to step up or our passing game might not go anywhere.

i'm expecting gore to have a huge game. he's due for a couple big runs.

I think NY will focus on Vernon. I agree this game is going to depend a lot on Crabby.

Assuming the turnovers and penalties don't decide it, of course.

Key 1: Crabby
Key 2: Pass protection
Key 3: Getting a pick or two.

We should be able to run, and we should completely shut down Bradshaw.

Harb's obligatory trick play: 70-yd TD pass from Sopoaga (who has the strongest arm on the 49ers) to Ginn or KW in the endzone.

I'm going with the 49ers by more than a TD. 27-14 is my guess

The weather will play a huge factor. The wind will effect the Giants deep passing game and they will struggle to run the ball on us. We will lean heavily on the run this weekend with the wind and rain. I'm going with 30+ carries between Gore and Hunter with Gore hitting 100+ yards.

I'm not looking for huge passing numbers but I think Alex gets 2 TD passes. I predict Eli to really struggle though with the weather effecting his ability to hit receivers down the field. This will force him into 2 Int's.

Everyone is calling the Giants the hot team, and I disagree with them. The 49ers are the hot team in the playoffs. The 49ers beat the better team last week. The Giants are getting way to much credit for beating Green Bay in Green Bay. That was not the same Green Bay that went 15-1 in the regular season. The Saints team the 49ers beat was every bit the Saints team that was as hot as any team in the league to end the season. They were also the same Saints that went for over 600 yards on the Lions the previous week. The NY loving media can spin it all they want, but the 49ers win over the Saints was much more impressive the Giants beating the Packers. I had the Giants beating the Packers all week and never thought twice about it. It was not a huge upset at all.

The Giants defense is also overrated right now, and I am glad the media is not saying it. It was only a month ago they gave up 23 points at home to the Redskins. They did go on to mostly shut down the Jets, Cowboys, Falcons, and Packers the next 4 weeks, but I don't see a team their that impresses me really.

The Jets are a proven train wreck that struggled all year trying to figure themselves out and never really did. The Cowboys is probably their impressive effort, and that can't be saying much with how the Cowboys always seems to play in December. The Falcons all year were hit and miss on offense and the Giants got them on an off day. The Packers who were so dominate on offense during the regular season did not show up to play Sunday. They simply proved taking to much time off before a playoff game is a very bad idea.

Offensively the best Defense out of that group they faced was probably the Cowboys, and I only say that because the Cowboys have a good pass rush. I wouldn't call any of those defenses elite though because they all have problems in certain areas. The Giants can just exploit most teams with the 3 WR's they can put on the field. The difference is we can make them one dimensional. The Giants are not looking to put up 100+ rushing yards, but they work best when they keep a defense honest by using the run to setup the pass. They just won't be able to do that against us and trying will just put them in 2nd and long or 3rd and long most of the game. If Eli passes over 40 times I like our chances in a rain soaked windy game.

Gore has the biggest day of his season. Vernon is double teamed all day but still scores 2 TDs. Crabtree decides it's time to catch the ball and scores 3 TDs of his own. Smitty throws for over 300 yds.
The Niner D absolutely humiliates NY with it's worst defeat of the season.

Niners by a whole friggin' bunch!

I think the Giants will sit in zone coverage and make Alex beat them underneath in tight coverage. We are not a vertical team so we don't really go deep often. That means we will need some slants and screens and for that to happen Crabs and Gore need to catch the damn ball.

The Giants are a good team and they do play vertical like the Saints off the play action. Goldson needs to scheme like he did vs the Saints, pretend to sit in the middle and then make a break on the ball on either side. Can the Smtih brothers do it again...I think so.

The one thing I can think that hinders us is experience, the Giants have been here, we have not.

Another thing: this chatter that the "Giants are running the ball better" doesn't account for the fact that they've been running while ahead late. Absent that condition (and I think that's a fair assumption) we should shut them down. They'll still try, but they won't succeed. Their play/action fakes aren't going to be nearly as effective as they were vs. the Snackers.

This is where we earn that experience and then some! The giants of 2007 didnt have much experience when they won it all. But you know how that turned out! Its our turn!

Good point, at some point you throw it out and play the game. Interesting fact I saw:

"When the Giants drop back to pass on 60 percent of their snaps, they’re just 3-7 this season including their Week 10 loss to the 49ers (61.4 percent). But they’re 8-0 when calling more than 40 percent run plays, including all four games in their current win streak. "

If we shut down their run (a good probability) we can take away the play action and make them play like the Saints, one dimensional.

i'll predict the "surprise" performance will come from Hunter, KW will also have a TD.

The run shouldnt be a problem. The big plays through the air are what worry me. But i think our Defense is pissed off they let the saints score 2 big ones like that. They should be ready!
