49ers Should Bring Back Andre Carter - Niner Noise - A San Francisco 49ers Blog

If we have the cap room for a 1 year deal it could work out as nice depth.

Hell to the yes the Niners should bring back Andre Carter. The Niners nees a situational pass rusher IMO. Depth on the DL is a problem, and he could spell a DE on a long 3rd down or come in as a rush OLB every once in a rare while for one of the two OLBs to give 'em a rest.

I didn't even know he was still a FA. A situational pass rusher would be the cherry on top of the best defense in the NFL. It's the one thing this defense lacks IMO.

a "back-up" situational pass rusher? if not, who comes out on "obvious" passing downs?

isn't Brooks is a 3 down LB? if not Brooks, Bowman? the NT?

i'm neither for nor against, just not sure (yet) how this would fit?

I'd bring him in for some depth if he came cheap.

I MAY be wrong, but IIRC, i think Bowman lined up on the line(down) in those obvious passing downs... along with Ray Mc n Justin Beats your face silly Smith.

I rather have Carter than haralson but Aldon and Brooks may still be seeing action though... Anycase, I wouldn't be against bringing in Carter(if he's healthy and has the gas) but also wouldn't be hardpress if we didnt and rolled with Haralson(even though i'm not in his corner)

Well, if he wants to come back to the 49ers and the coaching staff wants him... then

Yes, I think it's usually Brooks, McDonald, J. Smith and A. Smith in that 3rd package on the line with Bowman and Willis at the two LB positions. They could rotate in a situational pass rusher to give a rest to Brooks or McDonald primarily. And Bowman could be also swapped out if we wanted the situational rush specialist standing up. We could get a lot more creative blitzes than last year and even drop a DB from that package occasionally to keep the offense off balance.

I'd be okay adding some depth but also want to keep young guys active to develop good depth for the future. That's the trade off when making that type of move. I'm actually okay with a guy like Dobbs to develop for long term depth, and then draft d-line early next year to set up for the future.

Yeah i want Dobbs to really improve and show some growth. I, along with many other fans, like what I saw in preseason and his measurements should provide a new dimension of attack during a few moments of the game.

I want him to really bust ass and make progress.

This! - I am definitely one who really liked what I saw last August.

Word. 2.77 million is way too much to pay Haralson.

i'm ok with Haralson at least one more year, cause we don't know just how fast Aldon transitions? also, there is no guarantee Aldon and Brooks remain healthy all season.

IF there's injury, at least Haralson is good on 1st and 2nd downs. you might consider inserting our next best rusher on 3rd and longs?
