Just looked up his game logs to show how cold he was…

coming into tonight, he has been hit less in 2 consecutive games. Before that, he had a 10-game hitting streak.

Does he have worse optics than Belt?
I thought he was hitting a lot worse than that lately. I don't understand how he could be so productive but not appear to be so.

I am a real believer that offense is more a product of pitching than it is a product of hitting. This is a better hitting team than (arguably) any team in Giants franchise history, I still would not hang championship hopes on it. You NEED the pitching.

This bully is championship caliber.

This offense is championship caliber.

This defense is championship caliber.

This rotation will make it all for naught.
Not in the new era....if we only expect 4 innings from the starters each game we have a shot...

Hey, maybe the starter struggles will set the Giants up for success in the playoffs as other managers may be more hesitant to pull their starters and leave them in too long. Here's to hoping that to be so.

We see it happening right in front of us, starters are becoming long relievers that pitch first.

It would be great to have a legit ace like Bum in 2014 or Scherzer now but maybe we can pull this off?

If I remember correctly, the 2014 rotation was similar, in that it really limped into the postseason. But, as mentioned before on this forum, Webb isn't quite prime Bumgarner level. However, the offense does seem better than the 2014 team.
understatement of the year. This offense is HISTORIC. More HRs from 1b than any position for any team in baseball. More HRs from 1b in franchise history, including Willie Macs ROY season.

HISTORIC.

I think so. I'm ready for 5 years of the Bryant Wars.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that...can our bully sustain that kind of workload? At some point somebody besides Webb has to step up and throw 6 good innings (I'm looking at you, Gausman and Disco). I think that ship has sailed for Wood and JC.

Maybe...

Wood still could I doubt Cueto can
Yes we need a good 6 innings from someone once in a while in the playoffs. But I'm just saying the new model is a workaround when you don't have that stud ace, like we don't.

I'm thinking we may wind up traveling this road. Our SP outside of Webb has had a real issue trying to get past 5 innings. Hell, even Webb struggled the last time out.

Most of the other teams in the playoffs are bringing a top of the line SP rotation with them. They are depending heavily on them. Not sure we can do the same.

I think we may see quite a few games (hopefully) that are very close to Wholestaff structure. I just don't see our SP carrying the traditional load through these playoffs.

As good as our offense is ... the opposing pitching will still have the edge ....

Indeed. We're not the favorites, but we're not completely unable to win either

Yes ... offensively ....we have the ability to capitalize on any pitching mistake from any position within our lineup.
Maybe this year we will have a new Cody Ross ....

That's the thing, Ross was a guy no one expected going nuts for a series. We instead have 8 guys who can all hit, we don't need one of them to go unexpectedly nuts just need one or two to produce each game.

Exactly, my alt. We don't need Travis Ishikawa (although feel free to step up, Babe Casali!). Our lineup punishes meatballs and is patient, forcing even the best pitchers to throw more strikes than they want to. That's going to be the crux of the playoffs: can we get enough mistakes to win the game? Because we will punish them.

Well, the first series went well. However, I think the Giants will need to win at least 4 of the last 6 games in order to keep the division lead. I expect the Dodgers to sweep the Padres and probably win 2 of the 3 games against Milwaukee but I do think the Brewers won't roll completely over and could possibly take 2 of the 3 games from the Dodgers.

I think it's going to take 106 to win the west. I expect the Gs to win both series. If they sweep the snakes, they will clinch Fri night.

Yep .. if we go 4-2 we will have 106 wins. I don't see the doggies going 6-0 ... maybe 5-1 .... and fall a game short.. For us the AZ series is critical. We need atleasr 2 but hopefully a sweep.. don't want to play the Pads in a must win situation. Also not thrilled with a tie for the division. Makes you shuffle rotations around ... a lot ...

If there is a 163, it will be at China Basin. And that starting pitcher should be ready to go in game 2 of the NLDS.

Yep ... but the loser of 163 has a WC game 2 days after 163 ... that eats up another SP ... either the Doggies or us if there is a 163 ... just rather win it all early in the SD series ...

And the WC starter will likely not be available in the NLDS until game 4 (I think…. I did the mapping a few weeks ago)
