All we need to do is match the Doggies series by series .... and we are division champs.

We each play the DBacks and the Pads ..... we get the Rox now and the Doggies end with the Brewers.....

No matter the outcome.... this has been a fantastic year for us Giant fans ... who would have thought we'd be taking about our playoff possibilities??,,,

I really don’t like that the dogs close vs Mil. Milwaukee’s top priority will be (and SHOULD be) to get ready for the playoffs. I can see them dropping AT LEAST 2 in that series.

Conversely, we face all teams that are doing nothing but playing spoiler. There is no tomorrow for them. That is a big variable, though, and I can’t say if that is an advantage for us or not. Will the players have pride and try to actually play spoiler, or will they be thinking about their long put or their trap game?

I think that the Mil/Dodger series may be the key to how everything shakes out. I also think that how the Brewers approach this series will be linked to how everything stands between us and the Doggies at the time they meet. I think the Brewers have to make sure they themselves get ready for the playoffs .... but putting the Doggies in a WC position may be a real good thing for them ...

I think the Doggies have the best SP rotatation in the NL. They will be very difficult in either a 5 game or 7 game series. But ... if you knock them into a WC game .. there is a chance they may get knocked out of the playoffs after 1 game. Scherzer lost to the ROX after being spotted a 3 run lead. Anything can happen in a one game playoff. IMHO the Brewers would benifit the most from the Doggies exiting early. Just my 2 cents ..

Good point. I think the Brewers match up very well against us. I think they would prefer to face us. If they can set up a more difficult road for the doggies, it may be beneficial to them to do that.

But making sure they are set up for the Braves series is 90% of their concern. Affecting the Giants/dog race will only account for about 10% of their concern.

I still expect the dogs to take 2 of 3 in that series. I just don’t see the Crew doing what is needed to get over the hump in 2 games.

From Baggs today:

Let’s do a bit of arithmetic: The Giants have hit 85 more home runs than they’ve allowed. That’s pretty darn good. But it doesn’t capture their full advantage. Among the Giants’ 234 homers are 30 three-run shots and six grand slams. Among the 149 homers they’ve allowed are 12 three-run homers and three grand slams. The average number of runs the Giants have plated per home run hit is 1.65 and the average number of runs plated per home run allowed is 1.58.

Bottom-lining it for you: The Giants’ differential on runs scored via the home run versus runs scored via home runs allowed is plus-150. That’s easily rounded up to a full run a game. Spot your local nine a run at the outset. They’ll probably win a lot of ballgames.

It is crazy to think that this team has popped more home runs than the 2002 team. Numbers don't lie, but our perceptions sure can.

This is why we can be very dangerous in the playoffs. Every position has HR power ... almost all of them will be 20+.

But .. .. can our pitching hold us close enough that 2 run homer or even an EWS will make a difference?

Mediocre is being kind.
If I remember correctly, the 2014 rotation was similar, in that it really limped into the postseason. But, as mentioned before on this forum, Webb isn't quite prime Bumgarner level. However, the offense does seem better than the 2014 team.

I am a real believer that offense is more a product of pitching than it is a product of hitting. This is a better hitting team than (arguably) any team in Giants franchise history, I still would not hang championship hopes on it. You NEED the pitching.

This bully is championship caliber.

This offense is championship caliber.

This defense is championship caliber.

This rotation will make it all for naught.

Just looked up his game logs to show how cold he was…

coming into tonight, he has been hit less in 2 consecutive games. Before that, he had a 10-game hitting streak.

Does he have worse optics than Belt?

In those 12 games, though…

.283 / .389 / .457 / .845 5 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R

Not sure you can have a more quiet 10-game hitting streak…

Why is Rogers still wearing #71? He is an elite reliever.

Get him a real number, Murph…
