Belt hitting 7th still pisses me off. I swear Boch has something out for him.

You think he should be hitting 8 or 9 instead?

No, I just think one of our best hitters throughout the year should continue to hit higher in the lineup, because he still hasn't even been that bad, save for the strikeouts. His strength, getting on base, is wasted hitting low in the lineup. I saw this on twitter, courtesy of Giant_Potential:

Not sure what Boch has against Belt, but it's probably his strikeout numbers. Boch hates strikeouts. Good thing he doesn't mind GIDP's though, which Pence, Panda and Posey are very susceptible to, and Belt is not (career high 6 this year).

Bay be it is the fact that Belt allows his slumps to get in his head while Posey and Pence don't (to the same degree). We all argued about Sandovals contributions at the time, but was a mantle midget, so that probably led to a lot of the kid gloves used with him.

He wishes he was anywhere close to Mantle, midget or no

The Giants had gone 17 games without an error before that one....longest streak in their history. Defense is not our problem these days.

Hey SFGRTB, you may have a point that Belt doesn't get the same respect as Posey etc but that AB just now, 3 pitch K, is where his bat is at right now. Hard to say if he's batting 7th because he's in a funk, or batting 7th is making it worse, but I think he's batting in the right spot for now.

Since I'm alone here I'll make this my last post: that AB by Contreras (a rookie!) is a good example of why the Cubs are the best team in baseball and the Giants are....not. He patiently gets it to 3-0, then 3-2, no swings at all. Then he starts protecting, fouls off 4 more before whacking a double into the ivy. Can you imagine our guys doing that?

That's GREAT hitting. tzill would say Bum shat himself on that AB, but come on. Sometimes you tip your cap to the batters.

Playoffs are pretty random but if there's ever a 'best team' that should win it all, it's these Cubs. And by god if they pull it off we will never hear the end of the media fellatio.

OK one more, outstanding AB from Bum there to work a walk on like 9 pitches. He must have said 'I wanna do what Contreras did to me'

Is 116 in jeopardy?

It's 108 and if there was ever a year this is it. Even when the Cubs were in the playoffs in other recent years, they were never the obviously best team. It will take a Bartman-level fucking over to stop them this year IMO

I said something similar on Thursday with Scrabble's 50 pitch first inning. Cubs lead the majors in pitches seen, and walks.

What frustrates me continually is that the Giants' approach seems to be swing at the first decent pitch you see. Which works well when the team is going well. But when we hit these skids, all plate discipline seems to evaporate. And the approach never seems to change. Last night, Lester was at 83 pitches going into the 9th inning! Scrabble had that in the 3rd the other day!

Of course, the aggregate numbers tell a different story.

The Giants actually see the 4th most pitches in the majors.

The walk rate pre-ASB was 3.61 and post-ASB is 3.57

BA pre-ASB was .263 and post-ASB is .252

It is runs scored that is killing us: pre-ASB was 4.71 and post-ASB is 3.95 (throw out that 13 run game and it is under 3.90/game (-0.76)

Runs allowed pre-ASB was 3.90 and post-ASB is 4.23 (+0.33)

All together, that is a differential of +1.09 post-ASB

Wait, so Pence and Posey were handled differently than Belt because he allowed it to get to head and they didn't but Sandoval was handled differently because he was a mental midget but Belt wasn't? So Belt's problem is that he thinks too much and isn't dumb?

I'd much prefer the strikeout over the double play. Sometimes, putting the ball into play is overrated, when it always goes to 2nd with a runner on 1st.

Since the ASB, Pence has had one of the worst SLG percentages on the team, yet he continues to hit cleanup. By your logic, where should he be hitting?

No.

What I am saying is that everyone is different.

Sandoval gets pissed at the "disrespect" the org showed him by asking him to lose weight. How would he react to moving him down in the order to take pressure off of him.

Pence and Posey both keep their approaches somewhat consistent, so they SHOULD play their way out of slumps.

Belt is a guy who internalizes everything. Removing him pressure ABs so he can simplify his game should help. And good on him for "allowing" it.

Have Gamecast on. How in the world did Baez score from 2nd base on an infield single to 3rd?
