Really frustrating game. Then again, its been a frustrating couple of days since I cared about the Giants winning again. What was I thinking?

Rockies down 5-1 in the 4th inning. It is bad enough that the Dodgers made the playoffs, even worse that it was celebrated in SF. The worst part would be them taking the division for the 6th year in a row.

Take good comfort, my friend. We know what happens to the Dodgers in the post-season. :D

So worst case W/L (best case draft position), the Giants will finish 73-89, having gone 5-21 in September.

That's a 9 game improvement over 2017.

We have had a ton of injuries, and many/most players have had career worst years.

We went into September with a .500 record, and then played a AAAA team for the month (except for the stellar pitching).

This team's hitting is awful, and needs to be fixed, pronto. I don't know whether it is the lack of talent (most likely) or the approach (likely) or the ballpark (less likely) or the conditioning or the manager (could be). This team for the third year in a row has dropped off a cliff in the second half.

We'll see who they hire as GM and whether they will actually have any authority to set direction and make trades.

The Dodgers consistently draft lower than we do, and consistently draft better than we do. And they are far superior at developing good players. Even the players they rescue from the dumpster (see Muncy) seem to get better. Our approach is terrible, and there is little in the pipeline close to the MLB level. The players that were most ready are already here.

Not sure the solution except getting younger and more athletic, with some more power. Easier said than done.

Meanwhile in the post-season, ABTD!

With the conclusion of the 2nd to last day of the regular season, a lot of the top 14 picks have been settled. The White Sox have claimed the 3rd pick with their loss and aim to be the 3rd 100 loss team in the AL (which got close to 4 100 wins teams). The Padres, by virtue of the Marlins-Pirates rainout that never got rescheduled, and Detroit's worse record in 2017, is fixed on the 6th pick. Even though the Mets won, they get the 11th pick as the Twins had the better record in 2017, in case their records are tied after tomorrow.

Miami/Detroit (4th & 5th), Cincinnati/Texas (7th & 8th), SF/Toronto (9th & 10th) & Philadelphia/Anaheim (13th & 14th) all will be determined by tomorrow afternoon.

Despite how mediocre to bad the Giants have been this year, I once again feel a bit melancholic about the season ending. The end of the regular season (some years excepted) is always a bit sad.

1) Baltimore 46-115 -
2) Kansas City 58-103 12

3) White Sox 62-99 16
4) Miami 63-97 17.5 (4-5)
5) Detroit 64-97 18 (4-5)
6) San Diego 65-96 19
7) Cincinnati 67-94 21 (7-8)
8) Texas 67-94 21 (7-8)
9) Giants 73-88 27 (9-10)
10) Toronto 73-88 27 (9-10)
11) Mets 76-85 30
12) Minnesota 77-84 31

13) Philadelphia 79-82 33 (13-14)
14) Anaheim 79-82 33 (13-14)

They didn't sign Carter Stewart with the 8th pick, so they receive the 9th pick as compensation next year.
Wow, thanks, I didn't know that. Hope the difference between the 9th and 10th pick next year isn't big, not that anything can be done about that.
