you know I got me, but I really want to hear what the non-biased will say about this game... I strongly think my team is better... But I always do...

I am not a fan of Minnie Minoso at all. Thought that was a terrible pick. A leadoff hitter who once lead the league in GIDP. He wasn't a good base runner, had a lousy steal % but he liked to lean out over the plate to take one for the team. That's pretty much where my hatred of Milk's team ends. Love Gehrig, Ott and Kiner. But I also really like Ritz's lineup, some may not like McGwire but the guy has the best HR/AB in league history.

Don't much care for Ritz's bench, too many old timers for my liking, I understand the desire to add those guys but having most of your bench full of them doesn't work for me.

I like Milk's bench better, decent mix of speed and power.

Both teams have a good rotation, I am not a big fan of Glavine I believe he is quite overrated, but I love Grove and Whitey was a winner period. Not really sure what to make of Mullane as he's someone I havent researched much I knew he actually pitched left handed a few times which is cool for back then but I think a more current non HOFer would have helped more. I think I actually lean Milk in the rotations Walter is as good as it gets and the only starter in this that would make me drop one of my starters for.

Great job with Ritz having two HOFers in the pen but, Milks top 2 are just as good. Henke was amazing and nearly as good as Mariano and Tekulve was nearly as good as Rollie. I love the top 2 for Ritz but didn't care much for the other three.

As much as I hate agreeing with Milk I do agree his team is better.

Milk

RITZ's WORDS

I vote Ritz/myself because of the below reasons.
Lineup
I like Milk’s 3&4 hitters and feel Minoso is underrated leading off. However my 3&4 hitters are Aaron and McGwire who can just flat out hit bombs. My team has the speed on the bench if needed. I like Milk’s speed in his lineup and feel that’s a strength for him. I got a great dual of Tram & Sweet Lou turning the double play and feel I got the best non HOF players out of anyone because I took them early. (Just my opinion)
--------
3 wins needed.
Young > Johnson
Ford > Spahn
Glavine vs Perry
Glavine has better win vs lose % then Perry but unsure who is really better
I feel the remaining pitchers Mullane & Valenzuela vs Kaat & Adams I have an advantage and could close out the series.
Cy Young had a WAR of 168.4 compared to Walter Johnson’s 165.6
Cy Young had a .618 W/L % compared to Walter Johnson’s .599
Cy Young had a 749 complete games compared to Walter Johnson’s 531
Whitey Ford had a .690 W/L % compared to Warren Spahn’s .597
Whitey Ford had a 2.75 ERA compared to Warren Spahn’s 3.09
Whitey Ford was the better player until injuries slowed him down then Spahn took over as the most dominate lefty pitcher. If comparing when both were in their prime then I give the edge to Ford.
Tom Glavine had a .600 W/L% compared to Gaylord Perry’s .542
---------------
My Bullpen is a big + for my pitchers with me having 2 HOF pitchers with Mariano Rivera & Rollie Fingers.

I like both teams a lot. Ritz getting Trammell, Rose, and Shoeless Joe early without spending HoF on them enabled him to to build one of the better bullpens and pitching staffs. While not sacrificing much, if anything, in his lineup. If I was grading this I would give Milk the slight advantage in lineup and starting pitching, while ritz has a sizeable advantage in bullpen.

I think I vote Ritz for a 7 game series because I trust his Bullpen to get his team through a close contest when it comes down to the wire.

I agree with you about minoso.. Not a fan of his either... in fact when I drafted him I even said that... BUT his .388 career OBP was highest of the available players, and he did get 20+ SBs a couple of times... Wish I was able to do better there, I really did try to find a way to make your last second trade for tim raines... really wanted him!!!

you know, I get that he had 2 HOF in his Bullpen, but my bullpen is actually just as good... In fact mine could be considered better, as I am much stronger with my lefties...

the way I see it

Mariano> Henke- but Henke was a damn good closer- probably best non HOF available
Tekulve> dave smith- righty specialist
Sparky lyle> Mitch Williams- lefty specialist- not even close
Rollie Fingers> Lindy McDaniel- Righty long relief- rollie is better but lindy is one of the best non HOF available
Bobby Schantz> tippy Martinez- lefty long relief- again not really close...

I guess I'll stop bitching and vote...

I hate both teams actually, mostly because they took a handful of guys just before I could or when I was trying to get my bench and BP together I'd find them here... I really wanted the fastest man on earth damnit!

I personally like Ritzys lineup a little more... 1-5 I go Ritz very close 6-9 I got Milk close, mix and matching you can argue 1 over the other but that's my liking... I like the speed Ritz was going with on the bench, but I think Milk gets more usage out of his bench overall better unit... I really like Ritz rotation but I think Milk is better 1-5... Ritz has a great BP, although once Smitty dropped Wagner I would have went Mo and Wagner just to be cool and have the lefty righty thing going... However I know Milk has a great BP as well since he grabbed 4 of the 5 guys I wanted while I was researching...

In the end I go Milk with a 7 gamer... He has slight edges at half the spots and the biggest edge is the rotation which he owns...

I think on overall talent, Milk might have an edge, but on composition, I like Ritz team more. In a 7 game series, Walter Johnson is the ace of aces, but it's not outside the realm that Cy Young would split with him in two games pitched. I love Milks 2-5 hitters, not crazy about 7-9 and I'm with Nos, Minoso as leadoff is not good at all, and combining with a weak bottom of the order, negates some of Milks middle of the lineup power. The lineups are very close, and I think Ritz may win one more pitching matchup, I'm much higher on Glavine than Nos is. I thought Glavine had a great career, just overshadowed by a top 10 all time pitcher. Bullpens are about equal, and defensively, I have Nos a little better, mainly because of Tettleton behind the plate. Very close matchup between two excellent teams, would definitely go 7 games IMO

you hit on my other biggest regret... I didn't want tettleton as my starting catcher, but it was the easiest way I found to balance my lineup... I tried so hard to make trades to fix some problems, but after having no takers I had no choice... at least I have one of the better defensive catchers on my bench...

I just want to add when I said Milk owns the biggest mismatch it wasn't by a ton... It was slight but bigger than the difference in lineup, BP and bench (although bench might be bigger it's close)... I don't think Walter and Young split personally...

I remember you trying to trade for Sunny, you did good to get Pena. You had some real strengths, I just hated Minoso at leadoff and really hated Tettleton at catcher. I thought both moves could cost you a run per game, and in this, that's a lot

the only thing you wrote that I disagree about though is that his 7-9 HITTERS are better than mine, and that mine is SO weak... If you look at it closer, I think you would change your mind on that... But I cant argue with the tettleton and Minoso point...

the one thing I would say, is that his bench is weak, and doesn't really help his team... my bench they all have a role and will help where my team is weakest...

I had Munson UK took him, Simmons and Pena got penciled in then Ritz took Simmons... Then I found out Benito played in to the 2000's while checking his spelling, then got Pudge... Said all that to say you guys have half my team between you damn it!

Why are you anti Tettleton?

He's the best nonHoF power hitting catcher ever.

And he spurred to try and become a switch hitter in little league. It didn't work out well.
