And why in the name of all that is good is Blanco doing int he leadoff spot? We'd do better just declaring an out when the leadoff spot comes up. It would take just minimally fewer pitches.

I don't like seeing Blanco in the lead-off spot either, but if Scoots is sitting, who else do you lead off?

RK has to play. He is in the running for the primary LF job next year, so he gets every possible AB. Pence has earned the right to play when he wants.

For Pill, where do you play him? Belt now owns 1B. I already mentioned RK and Pence.

Giants cost 140; Pirates getting 130. Bum is a stud, but the G's are paying like crap. Not gunna touch this one.

When leading off a game, Blanco is hitting .150, with a .233 OBP

Anyone can hit leadoff better than that. Any. One.

Kiesch gives Bum a 1-0 lead. Pence and Arias fail to drive in runs that inning. Arias now below .200 with RISP for the season.

Why doesn't he learn how to bunt for hits and use his speed? I can't remember the last time I saw him do that. Pay Brett Butler to work with him for a couple of weeks.

And the wheels fall off for Bum in the 7th, giving up two singles then an Earl Weaver Special. To a guy with a grand total of 3 home runs all year.

The Giants can barely hit it out of the infield, and yet opposing teams have no trouble hitting homers in this park.

No kidding. I think that 2010 was the first year I saw a squeeze - it took him over 4 years. Then, he did it several times that year (including the playoffs, IIRC).

Blanco had actually heated up the past 14 days or so. Tonight's performance notwithstanding ...

He had three good games against the Fish. Nothing since. And only one of the games (he went 3-5) was in the leadoff spot. Still, he has been a terrible leadoff hitter. Doesn't work the count. Does not get on base. With tonight, he is 7-47 in the leadoff spot leading off games. (.149) For a team that must score early to win, we are in a one out hole almost immediately.

And I like Blanco, as a 4th OF. His defense is terrific, and he does have some speed, if Noggin will take the foot off the brakes.
