I knew Snell was throwing a good game but was not paying much attention and missed all of the 2nd half of the game. Congratulations Snell!
Now that he got his shit together and I see him up close, I can see why he won a Cy Young last year. Helluva pitcher.

Reds park is not easy on pitchers either

I didn't expect him to do well this year, with the late start to the season and the fact that he has yet to put together two good years in a row. Glad he is doing so well now!

This is the longest Snell has ever gone in a game (8 full)

And that's winning 2 Cy Youngs

The game is not the same as when we were kids lol

I can't remember whether it was Baggs or Grant that wrote about Snell's history. IIRC, they said he had only pitched into the 7th inning a handful of times, and had only thrown like 7 pitches in the 9th inning in his whole career. I will look for the article.

Whatever the case, maybe Snell read about it and just went out to show that he can, indeed, pitch into the 9th inning.

The quote: Snell, for all his two Cy Young Awards and his 15-strikeout dominance in his outing Saturday, has never thrown a pitch in the ninth inning. (He’s faced only 12 hitters in his career after the seventh inning.)

The game isn’t the same as it was when our bodies first started going to shit, let along when we were kids.

None that I remember. But Timmeh was just sick. I wouldn’t be shocked if had comparable stretches. Maybe McCormick? Marichel? Mathewson?
I may be wrong, but i seem to remember Billy Swift had a similar stretch in the early 90s.

he pitched on a couple of shitty teams.

Swift was a beast. I think he is last Giants 20-game winner.

I loved them both, Swift and Burkett (sp?). But I always appreciated swift more for some reason. I think of them as a tandem tho, forever intertwined lol.

Both guys seem to come out of nowhere to be co-aces. I was more Team Burkett than Swift. Swift was a reliever with the Mariners before the trade for Mitchell. Burkett was a farm hand who seemed to get buried in AAA for a few years and was close to getting dumped when he got a 2nd look. Both were good stories and both were able to have decent careers but nothing close to even Hall of Very Good.

Burkett needed to fail at baseball in order to find his true calling in the PBA.
