I respectfully disagree gents. I never played sports at a professional level by any stretch of the imagination, but I played on some good club/traveling teams and high school ball. When somebody important went down, that game definitely had "more" meaning/importance to me (even if it was incrimental). I definitely felt the need to "step up". Now, sometimes that got me out of my game and then the results didn't back up what I was trying to do.....but that's neither here nor there. I don't question Timmy's "want" to step up, it's just a bummer that he didn't do it.
I wonder if extra adrenaline hurts or helps a pitcher.
