Complete waste of a game. Awful, throw-away loss by a supposed pennant contender. Find a way to lose after leading 7-1 into the 7th. Stale, trash baseball.

More good baseball coming up vs. PIT and NYM.

Can we get someone, anyone, to be our new closer?

Hopefully, Casilla's gone after this season. The bullpen in general needs to be evaluated after the season for 2017.

Time now to play pretend like everything is okay on the KNBR postgame show and just laugh it all off as if that disgusting, disgraceful, shameful loss didn't just take place.

Keepers (for better or worse)...

Law
Strickland
Osich
Cain

Team control, with options (or not on 40)

Okert
Rodgers
Black
Stratton
Blackburn
Blach
Heston

FA

Romo
Lopez
Casilla
Peavy

Arb eligible/borderline

Gearrin
Suarez
Smith
Kontos
Reynolds

Pulling out of my ass, I would guess the bully next year looks something like...

Closer - Law
LHP1 - Osich
LHP2 - Smith
LHP3 - Okert
RHP1 - Romo
RHP2 - Strickland
RHP3 - Gearrin
Long - Suarez

I do not have a lot of confidence in that. Expect off-seasons deals to be made (either trades or FAs). Also, a spot needs to be made for Cain, whether that is in the rotation or the pen remains to be seen.

Wouldn't be surprised if we target Melancon pretty hard this offseason. Still think we should bring back Casilla, he's an effective pitcher.

He's an effective pitcher when he doesn't fall in love with the curveball when it's not working. He got away with a hanger to Trumbo in the AB prior to the HR. If he comes back next year, he should not be closing.

Casilla doing his best to impersonate Brian Wilson.
I wish. in 2010 willie had 48 sv 5 blsv 1.81 era. Casilla already has 6 with 3.28 era. His era has steadily climbed the last 3 yrs.

As for Gearrin:
The Giants cannot run out the clock with Cory Gearrin, whose rehab cannot last beyond Aug. 28. The club does not want to wait that long anyway. Gearrin has dominated in his rehab games and manager Bruce Bochy wants to use him to take a load off other relievers whom he has used more often than he would have liked.

At least the Pirates have a decent bullpen and may hold off the Dogs. What a disgraceful punch in the gut!
The gut punches have been plenty this year, and I think the PTB see that status quo is not a viable option.

He was impersonating Armando Benitez and did a great job of doing it. Maybe he can manage not to blow another save before the end of the homestand. Giants' opponents can still feel comfortable when falling behind by a few runs early, even at AT&T Park.
