San Francisco Giants (34-55)

1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Hunter Pence (R) RF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B

Thus ends probably the worst half of baseball since the Giants moved west.

And it figures that they call up Mac, only to have him sit for GorKys. Why?!? He cannot do any worse. :tsk:

Playing Gorkys over Mac makes absolutely ZERO sense.

Maybe they think Gorkys could have some trade value? That is ridiculous. No way would anyone pay with anything more than org depth for him.

I cannot think of a single, non-sarcastic reason to play Gorkys. Maybe Mac is hurt? Than why call him up? Call up Calixte instead.

And with Slater out 8-10 weeks, that opens a 40-spot. Chances Shaw or Heathcott get called up soon?

I'm at the game, that Crawford HR was a no doubter to the 421 sign in triples alley

Of the "corest" players on the team right now, who is the most likely to be gone by this time next year?

Bum
Cueto
Sammy
Posey
Belt
Panik
Crawford

I think Cueto is the clear "winner", so who would be the second most likely to be gone?

That's good. We don't want to keep any momentum on our side.

Well done gents.

Nah. None of the current bully arms are good enough to bump Cain from the roster before the end of the season. I would rather see if Cain has a future as a bully arm than see more of the crap the Giants currently have.

Hiwever, if his ouster means we get to see Reynolds or Rogers or Cyr or etc etc etc, then OK...

Speaking of the Molina chest protector...

Are there rules about stick-em on a catchers equipment? I would think that would be similar to a corked bat...

Yet another big hit given up on an 0-2 pitch, not surprising anymore. Good to have no games for the next 4 days. This team does a great job in finding different ways to screw up and lose games.

64-98 since the 2016 ASB. At least they managed to keep it under 100 losses.

Also, this is the most games behind 1st place at this point in the season since the 1902 Giants. Great job.

Might be asking too much for this team to go 29-43 after the ASB to avoid 100 losses. Right now, on pace to finish 61-101.

I'm still a fan, disgruntled though. This team has become unwatchable, and yet I keep watching.

Okert and Strick allow 4 of 5 inherited runners to score today. :L

Cueto's line was bad, but could have been better with some actual relief.

Dayum, it's like someone at the ASB last year just turned the switch from "awesome" to "supreme sukkitude". And that switch appears stuck right now.

And we keep getting young players injured: Bum, Smith, Mac early on, Parker early on, Arroyo, now Slater.

I say bring up Shaw. He took all of a week to adjust to AAA pitching, and is now mashing. If I never see GorKys in a Giants uniform again, it would be too soon.

8-17-3 in series

18-42 when 3 walks or less

12-35 when not scoring first (22-21 when scoring first)

Blah, blah, blah

AND, the hated Dogs are undoubtedly the best team in baseball.

If I were Cueto's agent, I would be pressuring him to opt in. Sure, his bully has certainly not helped him this year, but he is no where near pitching like an Ace. And he will not improve on his current deal if he is not an Ace.

Long term contracts for pitchers over 30 are stoopid. Unless that pitcher is Kershaw, and even then I would be hesitant. (And Cueto was "only" 29 when signed. Last year he was excellent value. This year he has been dog meat, but better dog meat than the rest of the staff.) I would suspect that if he opts in, that he will be better next year. This is perhaps a fluke year for all the Giants players. Or maybe this is the best we can expect for a few years?

Last year, Cueto's GO/AO was 1.46

His career is 1.14

This year it is 0.91

He's a ground ball pitcher giving up far more fly balls than he should.
