Glad Webb was able to gut out 6 innings but not a good game from the ace. With the team struggling, you'd hope he'd come in and be the stopper.

Just like you'd hope the bullpen wouldn't melt the phuk down yesterday.

Not a serious team.

I didn't watch that game but I trust cal's assertion that was really on the umpiring crew. Still could have done better but it seems not nearly as bad as the box score suggested.

Rockies bring in rookie reliever whom lefties beat up this year and the first two Giants' batters, who are lefthanded, strike out against him. That is Giants 2024 baseball.

Rockies bring in struggling rookie reliever, and go down on strikeouts for the first two outs and go in order. So Rockies' manager brings back said reliever for the 2nd inning in a rare multi inning appearance, and the Giants go down in order again. This is not a good game.

We have simply GOT to move on from Soler, Chapman, Conforto and Snell.

We won't, so the rest of this season will be mostly misery, but we really should.

I'd love to see the team take advantage of this trade market and sell but I know that they won't. I assume that they will just stand pat.

Highlights of the game for the Giants:

Well, Fitzgerald went 2 for 3 with a double and a home run

Miller and Hjelle got two clean innings with 4 Ks.

That's about it. Fitzgerald should play again in about 4 days.

If Luciano has such a strong bat, I could see them dumping Soler for literally nothing, just to get the contract off the books. He would draw zero interest if we want an actual return. Pretty sure they like Chapman. Not sure what they will do with others. At least we know they won't be buyers.

All of this would turn around if they go on a 9-1 run before the deadline but of course that's not very likely

Who do you sell that anyone wants though? Snell maybe? Doval?

If we had good players to sell we might not be in this predicament. We aren't selling Ramos or Matos or Bailey.

Who do we have to sell that has value? Wade maybe?

Snell, Chapman, Conforto. Yes, the return won't be high but there is no need to hang on to those who are going to enter free agency (or are likely to) in a year where the team is not likely to contend. Get some marginial prospects, like the younger players play (to see what we've got) and then reload this offseason, as needed.

Conforto is. Chapman, I'd think, is likely to trigger his opt out. Snell is more borderline but the last two starts, if a sign of things to come, could push him to opt out as well.
Other pending free agents:
Curt Casali
Wilmer Flores (2025 team option)
Alex Cobb
Luke Jackson (2025 team option)

I don't see the Giants getting anything in return for these 4 players.

I don't see them getting much for Snell, if he opts in ok we have a pretty good pitcher who will have a full spring training, if he opts out we save the money. Chapman can get more than his option after the year he's having? Let him opt out then. Conforto, ok sure, get a filler prospect.

Point being we may not be buyers but we don't have anything to sell really, we'd be doing it just to make moves, no real improvement to the club. I'd like to see how they look next year with more seasoned prospects, Lee back, etc.

Soler is the one who has to go, he's apparently blocking the special bat of Luciano, who himself is apparently a future DH
