But outside of a few balls here and there, I dont get the sense that BABIP is a MAJOR issue for him. He had an early stretch where he was getting BABIPed, but for the most part, he has been Huffing it.

Today’s blast not withstanding, of course.
AND his groundout with the bases loaded.

Montgomery has nine starts, and has pitched 7 innings twice, 6 innings thrice, and 5.1 innings once, 4 innings twice, three innings once, and two innings once (today). His ERA is 6.80 in 46 innings. He is 3-4.

Snell has six starts, and has pitched 4+ innings four times, and 3+ innings twice. His ERA is 9.51 in 23.2 innings. He is 0-3.

As poorly as Montgomery has pitched, and there were reportedly loud boo's today when he left, there's always someone doing worse.

I wonder how long to get the robots?

Apparently, pitchers HATE the roboumps in AAA...interesting.
I would have expected the batters to hate it more but I guess if you get an umpire with a generous zone, it makes you more comfortable on the mound.

At least from the pitching side, the Boras Five has not fared well from holding out. I believe both Snell and Montgomery have talked about how they've learned how necessary spring training really is.

Yeah, I want credit for putting in the Colin reverse jinx today. But I really did want Monty more than Snell. I assumed Snell would be in the 5 year/$150M range and I preferred Monty at what I thought would be 3/75.

Turns out Snell was 2/65 and Monty was 2/50...not a huge difference and Snell's upside is greater.

Almost 2 runs favoring Arizona. Wow. I knew he was bad, but I wasn’t sure he was THAT bad.

There was talk about how he can disappear for a whole season and come back strong the next season. Hope at least the latter happens with the Giants because the former certainly seems to be happening.
His career numbers bear that out.

Willie Mays is an inspiration. If he can add 10 hits at 93 years old then our players should start hitting like crazy.

From Brisbee today:

As of this writing, according to Baseball-Reference, Blake Snell has been worth minus-1.1 WAR for the Giants. I’m not great at math, but I know that you can add those two numbers up and then round down. It’s entirely possible that the difference between the Giants’ current position and a (completely undeserved) postseason position can be instantly explained by Snell’s season. It’s been that bad.
Snell is on the IL again, this time with a groin strain, which means there’s yet another injury to add to the cautionary tales of what happens when players miss spring training. Jordan Montgomery giving up grand slams is another one
