Because if we are to be sellers, then we are forsaking this year to build for the future. If another team is willing to overpay for Scoots or Pagan, then we should consider the offer. One could argue that they may be at or just past their primes, and might fetch a high price to a team desperate for their services. THink of the Wheeler for Beltran deal in reverse.
Or better, as someone else pointed out earlier, remember the Angels-DBacks deal where the Snakes got Corbin, Skaggs, Saunders, and RafRod for Dan Haren. I'd be all for a deal like that if I was Sabes.
