I don't think this means people are stupid at all. Casual fans aren't going to know every single NBA prospect. Hell, I follow the Draft and NBA closely but there were a few names that surprised me in the 2nd round that I've never even heard of.

Seeing a 6'10" dude in a nice suit and with an NBA hat and cameras following him would likely fool anyone.
