wow , potentially 50 sacks . i woud be hard pressed to but that

now we do have some rak bashers out there still and there are numbers out there that support rak

1) hali had 1 more sacks then rak but 137 more attempts
2) sacks hits hurries pressures rak had 11.3 and sacks leader mathis 11.2

maybe that doesnt make him elite however he isnt nearly the "only a very good OLB " he is made out to be .

he is pushing elite by numbers that dont always end up in the stat sheet

also look at kerrigan . he is in the same boat as well

Meanwhile the Redskins were 11th in most blitzes in the league last year.

There were no Rak bashers some people just believe he isn't worth the money that he was seeking with his injury history and his past performances.

Not an Orakpo basher either. Just not sure he is worth $11 million. At $8 million per for three years I am all in. I am looking forward to see what he, Ryan and Trent can do this year. Cooley was saying yesterday that he thinks Haslett will play more man with Shanahan gone which should give the OLBs more of a chance to rush.

My take as well. Sometimes I feel we share one mind when it comes to the team, Sportster. Uncanny.

If Rak performs to the levels where most Skins fans think he is worth the contract, he will leave via FA. If he doesnt, the Skins wont resign him and he still leaves via FA. Either way, ithink this is the last year Rak will be a Redskin.

So be it then, we need to get back to the days of depth on the roster. Not paying out for multiple superstars, just a critical few, IMO. We need home team guys who do the dirty work in the trenches. We now have a shot in the future, if we manage our assets properly :hope:

I agree Shark especially with the drafting of Murphy. He is gone either way. If Rak is having an avg. season do you think we should trade him? Could we get a first round pick for him?

You just described Rak to a T. I honestly dont think he could ever perform good enough for some of the fanbase though.

Why would any one give up a 1st round pick for a player that has been universally determined to be average by his own fanbase??

To me, if Rak fits into the salary cap appropriately, he should be taken care of as the home grown talent he is, just not at the expense of depth or the ability to pay the rest of the team's players overall.

Hard choices will always have to be made in this salary cap era. A team can no longer have a bunch of super high paid players. Difficult choices have to be made every year.

I hope Rak stays, reality is he may not because he might not be able to get the $$$ he feels he deserves. It would be a shame since he's been a skin since we drafted him, but unfortunately teams have to say goodbye to great players all the time these days.

we will have cap space . that shouldnt be a worry

i cant see anyone being convinced after one season, if he puts up elite numbers, that they will consider him elite

the mantra then will be , well he only did it once . losing rak will set this defense back murphy or not

to me , it would be very hard to accept 8 mil a season if you put up 15 sacks or so and make that 4th pro bowl . i think at that point all of this "very good " talk goes out the window

add to it how he handled this with class , didnt cause a problem , didnt become distraction , and i dont see how you cant pay him . structure the thing like kaepernic's contract

then we will have a litany of threads talking about how the skins dont take care of "their own "

one of the things this teams needs to do is draft and develop their own players . well people , here is the opportunity , and most of you are looking at the dollar signs because do we do the same with kerrigan ? murphy ? morris ? Rg3 ? reed ? when do you make a stand ?

sooner or later you have to keep good core redskins in their primes instead of letting another team reap the benefits of our work

in 2015 or the following year we arent going to be in cap hell . we will be in pretty good shape . all we have to do is approach free agency smartly and use our draft picks well and we can keep core players

Dad, you are right. We do need to do a better job of developing and keeping the core of our team. But we also need to know when to let a player go when their price exceeds their value. The Patriots are a master at this.

I'm not saying Rak's price has exceeded his value at this point, it all depends on his performance this year. At $11M, he is being paid as an elite OLB. In my opinion, he has not performed at that level. This is not just based on his sack totals, but also his performance in other key areas for OLBs, such as INTs, forced fumbles and stops on 3rd down or other key drives. Again, IMO, he disappears late in games (as does most of the rest of the defense) when we need some one to step up and stop a drive to get the ball back to our O. Despite this, I feel he is still a very good OLB

In any event, the team has given him elite money, and new defensive strategy, and new key players around him that should free him up to make game changing plays this year. If he doesn't put up elite numbers all around, then he has no excuse. Unfortunately, there will be a team out there that will throw the big numbers at him, so we will probably loose him in that case. The team is aware of this hence our drafting strategy this year. IF he does put up top 5 numbers, I'll bet that Allen does all he can to re-sign Rak, probably making him one of the highest paid OLBs in the game. Remember, Allen is more old school. Since his arrival, name 3 players that he has let walk that were core guys. I can think of one (Lorenzo).

Shark if a team like Indy gave up a 1st round pick for Richardson why wouldn't a team give up a 1st for Rak? Aren't pass rushers in more demand than RB's? I know Richardson is younger but someone might bite. He is gone either way so you my as well get something for the guy. Unless he is so dominant that we will need him to make a Super Bowl run.

Why would anyone give up a first round pick for a guy on a one year deal? Just wait until he's a FA next offseason.

b/c you have a chance to extend him if you already have the rights to him during the season.
