Has Akers done enough to lose his job? I am surprised Mason Crosby still has a job
A FG might make the difference in the playoffs. The stakes and pressure will be much higher.
I have no problem seeing what's out there. We made a change at QB. Why the heck wouldn't we look at kickers when ours has missed a few recently?

Agree- Even if it is just to scare Akers back to the middle of the uprights - this is a quality move by our FO!
would a tryout really scare Akers back into form?
if he's lost the stroke, he's lost the stroke. i'd think these tryouts would make his psych worse IF anything? but it has to be done and glad they're doing it now.
Depends on the reason(s) he has lost his stroke.
don't recall reading about injuries? unless there is one, it isn't physical right?
Not sure about any injuries - if it is injury related then we are talking about something entirely different. On the other hand, if he has lost his mental or emotional mojo, then, yes facing the loss of your job can certainly help correct those issues.
ok, so we agree it is mental, emotional, or combination there of. what i don't necessarily agree with is.....these auditions will improve his mental or emotional problems.
if you said lit a fire, or make Akers train/practice harder, no problem here. but you're saying these tryouts will 'fix' his mental and/or emotional problem, i disagree.
anyway, this is just pure opinion so lets leave it here.
Howard Balzer:
Notable tryouts: LB Aaron Curry, C Andre Gurode (Bears); PKs Billy Cundiff, Nate Kaeding (49ers)
I think the majority knows where I stand on Akers by now, but even with Akers struggles, I wouldn't feel more comfortable with Cundiff. I cringe anytime I see his name brought up. Kaeding would be one of my favorite options at this point if he's finally healthy (Chargers had him on IR).
