Schepler was released on the 3rd to make room for Ray Ventrone. To make room for Schepler this time, FB Alex Debniak was released. Debniak was signed as an UDFA on May 7th.

Schepler was released on June 3rd? if so, why didn't they just release Debniak for Ventrone? you wouldn't give a 3 year contract to someone who was borderline 90 man roster?

These type of FAs sign 3-year contracts all the time. UDFAs more often than not sign 3-year deals as well. I can't explain it incredibly well, even after all these years of seeing it happen, but it happens all the time with every team.

In other FB news, the Ravens will either release or trade Vonta Leach after not being able to come to an agreement on a reduced contract. He has a $3M base salary figure for this year, which in my opinion means NOBODY will trade for him given that and his age.

The 49ers also signed tight end/fullback Jason Schepler and parted ways with rookie fullback Alex Debniak, who was waived/injured. Debniak played at Stanford.

if so, then the 49ers did think of Debniak as having more potential.

49ers Sign WR Brandon Carswell

And waived TE Cameron Morrah. He played for 49ers WR coach John Morton at USC. Carswell and Morton also have another thing in common. They were both signed by the Raiders as UDFA wide receivers to start their NFL careers.

Carswell at his pro day (Field Turf - neutral surface): 4.47 (40 time), 2.63 (20 time), 1.55 (10 time), 18 reps, 34 inch vertical jump, 9 feet 4 inch broad jump, 4.22 20-yard shuttle, 7.04 3-cone drill.

He dealt with a few injuries while at USC, too.
