I just saw this on ESPN too Clyde, the thing he Shefter said is Manning hasn't seen SF facility yet and the Cards are told to proceed as if they wont get Manning. I like that, Cards not getting him. However, what are our chances? What if Smith signs it now and Manning comes in?

I've said it before, we're the most appealing because out of all the teams that would be interested in him because we offer the best chance to get him another ring.

It all depends on what's most important to Peyton. Money? Playing in the AFC?, Winning?, Location?, etc

No matter how it turns out at the very least we pursued him and if we lose out it won't be because of we didn't try at least so it does make me feel better about the front office.

49ers already watched Mannings workout. Schefter called the niners the sleeper pick, but with so much talent in San Fran Manning is very interested.

Couple things:

1. because of Condon's multi-faceted involvement, I wouldn't read too far into anything. It could be the Niners are interested, could a lot of other things we can't imagine.

2. I also thought, when I read Moss saying "no-brainer", that they might have told him Manning was on their radar. But that said......even if the Niners were totally interested in Peyton they were still only one of a few contenders for his services, so banking on the Niners acquiring him would have been a fairly major risk for Moss. Moss has to be comfortable with Smith, or would probably not have taken that risk.

3. I LOVE how this front office just does not talk about doing things....they just do them. In fact, they seem to think the less talk the better. No bark, all bite.....great contrast to some other teams who trumpet every single player they're even thinking about getting.
