To the best of my knowledge (and research) These are our FA's at the end of this year.

I would expect after this season, SF will be high on the list for FA's of other teams. Combine that 'problem' with the above list of mostly solid contributors to the success of this season, who will likely want to stay with the team and Baalke is going to feel like he died and went to the candy store. But, as we have all witnessed first hand this season with Philly, it can also be a death knell.

So whom do we keep & whom do we let go?

To answer your post though

Alex Smith-Resign him(still wanna see how he does to finish the season/playoffs though.)
Braylon-Same as alex
Morgan-Resign
Ginn-up in the air on him. Always nice to have a great return man but KW is stepping up as a reciever and he could be a returner. I say resign if the moneys right.
Norris-Bye-Bye
Snyder-Could look for an upgrade but resign if the moneys right
Rogers-Resign
Goldson-Resign
Williams-Let Go, Spillman can fill his role
Spillman-good backup and special teamer
Smith-Resign if price is good, provides depth but i wont lose any sleep if hes not back.

Totally forgot the LB:

Brooks: Got a feeling he will be asking for more than he deserves. Resign if the price is right if not then we can def upgrade.
Grant: Resign for good depth.

Here are my lists

Keepers: (right circumstances pending of course)

Smith (Obvious)
Morgan (If his first five games were a harbinger of what he has become as a WR - Sign him)
Ginn (Consistent all season as a return specialist (4th for KO’s/9th for PT’s). Noticeably improved as a WR)
Brooks (He's a solid part of our front seven. If its not broke - don’t fix it)
Goldson (Has played solid all season)
Rogers (Obvious)
Snyder (When he's in, the O’Line works)

Fencers: (Need more information to evaluate)

Edwards (Love the guy, need to see the performance)
Grant (Depth)
Williams (Depth)
Smith (Depth)
Spillman (Depth)

Let Go:

Norris (It's good to give the old timer his first taste of the playoffs, but when the curtain falls on this season, so to will it fall on his career with the 49ers - Thanks for all you have done MN - This Bud's for you!)

I mostly agree with this list in terms of who the team should target. I might drop Williams to the "Let Go" pile. He's an older, more expensive guy who doesn't bring any more (and maybe less) than the younger guys. That's the only real change I'd make from the list.

In terms of the actual likelihood of guys returning, I think Smith, Snyder and Morgan should be relatively easy to re-sign, and would probably give the Niners the home-team discount.

Rogers has said he wants to stay, and I believe him, but we'll have to open the checkbook and I'm not sure Baalke will do that. I think Goldson will go where the money is. That didn't pan out for him last year, but he's having a much better year this year. Ginn is also looking at a bigger payday if only for his STs ability.

Brooks is the one that really intrigues me. He's a very good all-around player who has done a nice job for us this year. He has a history of being immature and unreliable, but he seems to have grown up a lot (from stories before the Skins game, I got the sense the death of his father played a role in that). I would generally be inclined to assume he'll chase the money, but he may want to stay in a stable environment where he's had success.

As far as guys on the fence, there's a good chance Spillman returns. He's got as prominent a role here as he's likely to find. If we lose Goldson, Smith becomes more of a priority and should come at a reasonable price. I think Grant's status will depend upon how he plays in Willis' absence. He's been a starter in the league, and if he plays well over the next few games, he may want to go somewhere where he's not sitting behind two pro-bowl caliber guys.

I think there's a very good chance we'll be looking to replace two starters on D, and possibly three. Should make for an interesting offseason.

Btw, anyone know if the length of the contract the guy is coming off of ties into comp picks? As in, does a guy coming off a one-year contract (say Rogers) count the same as he would if he were coming off a four-year contract? I believe he does, but I'm not sure.

I agree with your keepers and fencers.
Luckily most of those guys won't command top dollar... unless the 49ers win the Super Bowl. That would increase the pricetag for a select few according to their positions and their contribution to that cause. Because obviously, if they won a Super Bowl, some of these guys would have played incredibly well in the post-season.

I doubt the 49ers can get Goldson back though. He already turned down a fair contract for his level of play (not being a Pro-Bowler or All-Pro, but still a a very good player). He seems to think he should be the highest paid Safety in football without being the best, so as much as I want the 49ers to keep him, he's not worth the pricetag he feels he deserves. Plus, he is having a pretty good year. 4 INTs, 1 FF, and big hits... that'll make him attractive to other teams who will be willing to pay him more than the 49ers offered a year ago.

snyder can play almost every position on the line. great as a back up, but we need to upgrade the line badly. i'd like to keep snyder even if we do sign someone else to start.

I wouldn't pay more than the veteran minimum for Snyder.

a quality back up who can play multiple positions is hard to find. i think you're underestimating his value

He can play RG with mediocrity, and he can play RT worse than any starter in the NFL. I don't think I'm underestimating anything.

i just think he'd be good to have in case of an injury, then hopefully one of our young back ups can beat him out

I'd be fine with that as long as it was for the vetaran minimum. I'd even be willing to comprimise with a little more, butvery little. I see him as a backup Guard not a backup tackle. And Kilgore is looming as a potential backup OG (maybe even starter?).
