I would never have all those starters on the bench at the same time.

Playing like shit right now

I was going to blast Brooks if he didn't adjust in the second half.

The Wizards starters can compete with anybody, but the bench is still not very good. At least 2 starters should be on the court at all times, IMO.

why should he change the way he plays his units just because it is the playoffs ?

The Hawks future went south the day Ferry was let go. Budenholzer is a shitty GM. He inherited a great hand and he's misplayed every move till all the cards are used up and we're headed nowhere.

Cmon man.

That is exactly why I always thought he was a mediocre coach. He never made the right adjustments in OKC. Hopefully he has learned.

Rotations always shrink in the playoffs, especially when your bench sucks. More off days + higher level of competition mean you can't just blindly deploy regular rotations as a coach.

yeah ... why change what has been successful and got you to this point.

1) Your bench sucks

2) You're not necessarily changing anything. You're still playing them the same amount of MPG. Unless you have some great bench, you should never have a lineup when you have 0 or 1 starter on the floor which is what he was doing in the first half today

It is a pretty big reach comparing the Hawks to the Celtics. The rosters may have been comparable, but the Hawks did not have any top of the lottery picks they could use to either bolster the roster or as trade assets. Picks in the late teens just are not worth that much.

Maybe Bud is in over his head, but it isn't his fault. They overachieved the year they won 60 games and have been chasing lightning in a bottle ever since. Had they traded Horford and Teague, they would have given away their last, best chance to make a playoff run. While they are both quality players, they would not have returned as much as you think in the last year of their contracts anyway.

No it's not a reach. If you look at the roster, the contracts and the draft picks at the time Ferry was let go, we had a loaded hand. While we didn't have top picks, we were loaded with 1st rd picks and expiring contracts to use as currency. Budenholzer let Teague and Horford walk with nothing to show for it. Ferry wouldn't have let that happen.
This is Coach Bud's roster and it makes no sense. Ferry built a team that worked extremely well in Bud's offense. Howard was the death nail, he makes no sense at all in a motion offense where positional passing and shooting range are critical.

since thee all star break, with the addition of bobo ...

yes, the 2nd unit has out performed the first unit in several games ... in their limited minutes

I agree that Howard and shroeder don't fit the offense, but I am not sure you understand Boston's situation if you are making that comparison. Those Nets picks should turn into all star caliber players. The Hawks never had that. They had a roster full of good players that fit together really well. That is also why they didn't trade Horford last year.

Well, if the bench is deployed like they were in the first half, the Wizards have no chance to get past the second round.

Bojan has been struggling for quite a while. I'm sorry but their bench is just not good enough where you can say hey let me rest all my starters at the same time and we will be fine. Just not the case.

No it wasn't.

The Wizards were up 23-12 when Porter and Gortat went out. Beal and Morris had already gone to the bench, Beal with 2 fouls.

the first unit got into foul trouble. Whose fault is that but their own ?

at half the first unit had Wall with 13p, Morris 10p & Porter 5p ... not exactly lighting it up

and Morris had a career day, so his numbers are an anomaly

That is not the point. They had a big lead and momentum. Then the Hawks bench went on a huge run against the Wizard bench.

Beal had foul trouble. Brooks could have adjusted the rotation, leaving Wall in longer and giving him a break when Beal renters along with either Morris or Porter.
