I think JV's fastball velocity bottomed out in 2014. Late last year, he was hitting 97-98 on the gun at times. I don't think he topped 94 mph this past Monday, though.

Yeah, I'm a dumbass. "his fastball so far in 2016 is as fast as it's been since 2012" is completely untrue. I was looking at his career total, not 2016. Granted, it's just two starts, but his velocity in 2016 is the slowest it's ever been. Mea culpa.

You're also right that, 2016 notwithstanding, 2014 was the bottom of the barrel.

Looks like he had about handful touch 95 on Monday.

Good info. Really, 94-95 MPH is plenty enough velocity for a starter if he's locating well ... and not tipping his pitches.
