Not anymore, I believe when we started people did but people should not be frowning on those who used or are suspected to have used.
The only difference between now and the steroid era is the guys stop using after HS, college or the minors. If Mike Trout didn't take juice at some point....

I'm going to do everything in my power to change that... I figure it's everyone's right to know and love the best sport the good Lord ever created!

And with my first pick I select Rod Carew.....

I am up on my history. I can hold my own. Just prefer more active sports with less "unwritten rules". If my favorite player flips his bat after he hits a home run, I don't want to worry about him taking a 95 mph fastball to the head the next time he goes to bat.

So big overpaid guys walking around putting a ball in a hole is more your thing? We gonna change that!

Personally, I like UK's best 3 years deal. Restrict it some for era if you want, but best 3 years would be real fun and people may get to know some guys who were huge for a short time, but just didn't sustain it - and I would respect Ritz's selection of Bo Jackson a lot more. :)

Only problem is how do we vote for that? Add up stats? If we are taking guys that were only good for a couple years how do we decide whos better it opens it up for even more hurt feelings...

I don't know, I've always been able to argue my guys top seasons. I take these guys all the time (Doc Gooden, Eric Davis, etc.) and I'm always near the championship. It's not that much differnt than the prime we're looking at, it's just that we'll shorten it to peak. Hell, there are tons of players who played like Hall of Famers in their prime, but just didn't have the longevity to make it to the Hall. The only people who would be affected in the way you are suggesting are those who only look for career numbers/name recognition.

Do the voters frown upon steroid users... or should I say "alleged" users? I did one of these on another board and got crushed because I took only "clean guys".

I know that no one has ever had anything to say negative about Bonds in the lineup, it has all been postive based on his stats. I have not been a part of a lot of baseball drafts though......The drafts take longer then the naps I take when baseball is on tv.

But if I pick George Foster who in a 3 year span hit over .300 with 121 HRS and 390 RBI's are the voters going to look at him the same as they would Hank Aaron who never really had a 3 year stretch any better?

Sometimes, it's just a fact that a guy at his best is better than the best at his best. There's no way to tell how someone else is going to think about your player. Heck, I had to defend my basketball draft in both rounds I won because people just didn't see my players the way I did. (Curry v. Stockton, Wilt v. Hakeem, Durant v. Garnet). As another example - I had 2 football drafts with the best OLines playing against undersized 3-4 defenses and I was smoked both times because I didn't have the big name skill players. You can only set the guidelines, you can't make people see the scenarios the same way you do.

Heck, was Dwight Gooden's career better than Jack Morris'. No. But if we're talking about players at their peak, I would take Gooden every time.

Isn't that what we do anyway? Career numbers is probably the biggest end all, except in young players, where it's a projection. It wouldn't be simply adding numbers, you'd still factor speed, power, defense. Intangibles. This would just bring alot more players into the fold, and put the younger players on an even keel. Jose Canseco ever been drafted? He would in this

Or make it 5 years. Same concept, and that's how everyone wants to be graded anyway, peak years

Love baseball but u can't possibly call basketball players overpaid compared to baseball. Basketball players are well underpaid in comparison

Even in Brady's 50 HR year, he was no Barry Bonds.

Barry Bond (2001-03) vs. Brady Anderson (1995-97)
G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI Sb CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB
426 1826 1269 357 438 85 5 164 337 29 5 523 198 .345 .542 .808 1.349 253 1025 16 28 0 6 164
443 2040 1723
322 487 109 22 84 247 65 27 247 322 .283 .387 .518 .905 132 892 15 51 12 7 11

And, that's just one example - someone could choose to go with the faster, leaner (IMO better) Bonds from the early to mid 90s. Either way, Brady Anderson isn't taking the place of established Super Stars, but he could take the place of a Tony Armas on the bench or something like that.

Exactly. If you go 3 year totals, Anderson is nowhere close

The reason I like this version is that you get to control what type of team you wanna put out there.

You draft Tony Gwynn. You decide if you want the guy who hit .371/.418/.495/.913 and was built like a donut shop, or the guy who hit .341/.405/.451/.856 and was lean and fast with 40 SB/season and 2 gold gloves.

With Bonds, you can choose the 55 HR/season .345/.542/.808/1.349 guy with 3 MVPs or the 40/30 .321/.449/.651/1.100 guy with 2 MVPs and 3 Gold Gloves.

Someone like Roger Maris may get consideration as someone who averaged 44 HR 118 RBI and had 2 MVPs & a Gold Glove, instead of just being the guy who hit 61 and no one remembers anything else about him.

But, all of this is moot if no one else likes it (which is completely fine).

Sure I can, the NBA is full of the best players in the world but they are walking around putting a ball in a bucket. I bet there dozens of MLB players who can make a 3, how many NBA players you think can hit a 85 mile an hour curve? It takes so much more skill to play baseball they should be paid way more than NBA players.

Well if we do this 3 year thingy we will have to go back to posting stats with our team otherwise its just a name value draft again as there will be some players never drafted before. I still have my doubts about this but i'm in.

JA Happ just got paid more per year than Stephen Curry. End of discussion
