In this scenario they would have beaten Alabama and Georgia. So no, they would not have lost two of their three toughest games. And does that mean you think Miami and Auburn will end up unranked and/or are bad teams? And does that mean you think A&M and Mississippi State are bad teams? 9-3 or 8-4 are decent records, especially if they're your 4th/5th-ish best wins of the season.
I would say there is a good chance that a 5 loss Auburn is unranked.

Wisky wins the B10 in a revenge win over Michigan

Iowa St wins out and wins the B12

VT wins out and wins the ACC

Utah takes the P12

ND loses to USC and NW

SEC gets 4 teams in the playoff . Tua breaks his leg Kentucky wins the Natty and starts the apocalypse

I DID NOT think it would happen, just thought it was an interesting fairly realistic scenario.

A lot more likely that team sec gets one team in as opposed to three.
No kidding. I would even say it's more likely the SEC gets ZERO teams than it is that they get 3. But that doesn't change anything I've said in this thread.

Well wouldn't they also have lost to UGA in the conference title game? I took that as being tougher than beating them at home, though it's splitting hairs to an extent, considering they were so dominant Saturday.

Also, no, I don't think Miami is a good team. I think they end up unranked this year. They probably are an 8-4 team, but their resume is absolute crap so that will be considered. Auburn, IMO, is a 7-5 team at best. They could easily wind up 6-6. So, also unranked, yes. A&M and Miss State are decent teams, but if those are your 3rd and 4th best wins, that's nowhere near enough to get you in as a 2-loss non conference champion.

Did you only read part of my post? I clearly said I DID NOT think it would happen, just thought it was an interesting fairly realistic scenario. I do think it would be possible though, based off of all the teams LSU would have beaten.

Gotcha. I see what you mean then. But if you have losses anyway, then isn't it better for the losses to be to good teams? Anyhow, as I said in the original post, I don't think all 3 of these teams would make it EVEN if the proposed scenario happened. And even if that scenario happened I still think it's quite possible that only the SEC champ made it to the playoff. I just saw this scenario and thought it was interesting and not out of the realm of possibility.

I don't think LSU would make it with 2 losses if OSU, ND, and Clemson all had just 1, unless they absolutely murder Alabama and lose super close in the conference title game, in which case Bama is on the outside looking in.

Not to even remotely "defend" Michigan but just another example of......

SEC! poll magic.

Georgia loses by TWENTY POINTS to a team ranked 11 spots behind them (Looking awful doing it) and only drops 6 spots in the polls

scUM loses by 7 to a Notre Dame team ranked 2 spots ahead of them and falls 7 spots.

The B1G can't even SEC

Everyone drops way more when losing your first game in week one than teams that lose their first game in week seven. That's just common knowledge.

A fine example of why rankings should not even exist until like halfway through the season. Preseason rankings are based on nothing but assumption pretty much.

I can get on-board with rankings not happening until later in the season. But I feel like that's a different argument than whether or not they should drop more at the beginning if they do have rankings.

Well you get 2 teams who are 0-0 and ranked based on nothing but assumption. How do you properly evaluate after 1 game? You can't really.

I agree. But that's why I'm saying since they DO do rankings, it does make sense in that scenario to drop a team farther after one week because your only sample size is a loss. At least now Georgia is 6-1 so they've shown more than Michigan did at that time and it's mostly been good. So it makes sense to not drop them as far. Plus they also got lucky because so many other teams ranked right below them also lost.

i think every year we should take the top 4 teams in the SEC and call that the playoffs and leave every other conference out

Texas is the media darling right now. No way they miss the playoffs.
