there was a fair bit of uncertainty that Kopitar would come to North America at the time.
I know I was hoping the Nucks would take him at #10 (Kings were at #11) over Luc Bourdon (RIP) because his talent was really at a top 5 pick level.
Kings took the risk, or just knew something about Kopitar's intentions that the rest of the league didn't.
