I wish Ubaldo STAYED on the D.L.. This @#@$ walks too many damn people -- which sets up opportunities for the opposition to get cheap runs. If not for the walks, SL wouldn't have had any chance to score in the 1st inning. Giving up walks (2) are never a good way to start a game.

I'd rather have Gonzo in the rotation than this, mf. :yell:

With Ubaldo on the mound, it's going to take some work, brother -- but the Birds have to have the best back-up and utility guys in the game. Thank God for Caleb Joseph and Delmond Young! :hail:

Looks like Cruz is finally beginning to wake up in the 2nd half of the season. Nice two- bagger! 5-2, O's, bottom of 3rd. Keep that run support coming!

Unfortunately we might need every bit of that run support given Jimenez's pitching...

(Seriously... the $50M is a sunk cost. If the A's could release Jim Johnson, why can't this organization do the same and simply DFA Jimenez when he's clearly worse than any other pitcher on the 25-man roster right now? You're going to lose the money either way; let's not lose games as well!)

I can't agree enough. He's more of a liability with the walks than an asset.

Speaking of walks... I looked up Jimenez's stats just out of curiosity, and the result can be summarized as "ouch." (Among starters with 30 or more innings pitched, he's currently ranked 1st in walks per 9 innings.) To put it another way... it's a particularly bad year so far even by his standards.

That being said... it looks like the decision to let Jimenez pitch today wouldn't matter after all thanks to the run support.

The walk ratio is astounding (in the worst way), but I have to give him credit in one thing ... in k's per 9 -- he's the best on the O's pitching staff at 7.95. He had 5 k's, today.

Still ... in a normal tight game, he is a risk on the mound; however, on the flip side, he may very well thrive, if the bats stay hot for the rest of the season -- particularly, when he pitches.

Poor dude can't even get above the Mendoza line. :tsk:

The good thing is, when he does connect ... it always has a chance of going over the fence.

JJ is out with a sprained thumb? Shit. :faint: This could be a problem if he doesn't heal properly. His D is needed just as much as his bat. The man is a wizard with the glove -- and Flaherty can't tie his shoes, let alone fill them.
