In recent NBA playoff history this is true...

I think part of it is variability of teams going on 3 point heaters in the regular season, players keeping their minutes down, and generally not treating the regular season with as much urgency as decades past

Could be a factor, but it's the usual: much better defense every night, half court game vs running a lot, pressure every game, playing the same team over and over so they learn your stuff, etc.
