Terrible decision by a poorly run organization. They needed to shed that salary and get back picks and young players. That’s a listless organization going the wrong direction.

First poorly run because he wanted out and would never sign an extension and now poorly run because as suspected the guy who said not about the money was all about the money?

So it wasn't about winning for Garrett but the money.

The deal includes a no trade clause
as I suspected. said from beginning offer him what he wants and all of a sudden he will like direction of the team.

They were going to eat around $25M this year even after June 1st. I think the move was trading him next year

Money + convincing him they aren’t going into a long rebuild. That will all depend on the QB position

Pro QB is like no other position in the entire team sports world. The demands from the position are almost as high as the skill requirements to play at this level. Soon the owners will figure this out and remove the QB position from the team cap. Each team will pay their guy within a range of that teams net revenues. Top end quarterbacks will be high end CFO management positions with stock options for the seasons of great team achievements.

just a matter of time

I think poorly run is seen in failed season after failed season on top of poor decision after poor decision. They just invested big money for a player at 29. By the time the Browns could even think about being a Super Bowl contender it will be time to move on from him because of his age. They would have been better off getting picks and swallowing the cap implications of moving on from Garrett as well as the rapist QB. The smart move is to rip the band aid off. The Browns rarely make the smart move.

A rebuild is what they need. They’re just lying to themselves. Or maybe they aren’t. You can make the argument that nobody in that building actually knows what it takes to compete for a Super Bowl. Maybe they think they are doing things to compete for a Super Bowl.

I mean, hard to say not poorly run when considering long history (all the way back to 70s) but THIS regime has been at least decent. I have no doubt how matter how this turned out you'd have ripped him.

Were you among the many who ripped Haslam for not meeting with him? either way, guess that was overblown as I said and didn't affect his willingness to stay.

Most telling in your comments are still calling a guy a rapist who very likely has not raped anyone. But you do you I guess.

didn't Berry spend a lot of time around Roseman? I mean, I get Browns have been major disappointments most of last 50 seasons + but THIS regime has only been here 5 and inherited a mess.

That’s what you get when you have a GM possibly fighting to stay alive (my opinion). Berry has to nail this draft like the Eagles did and find the right QB or he will be finding a new job.

I really don’t spend a lot of time thinking or evaluating the Browns because after Marty Schottenheimer moved on the Browns have been irrelevant in my lifetime. You can play mental gymnastics to defend them if you like but the reality is the Browns have won one playoff game since the Clinton administration left the White House.

I don’t draw a distinction between sexual assault or r*pe. I see those things as being synonymous. Sports creates strange bed fellows. I feel bad that you find yourself having to defend a shitty person like Watson and the payoff has been a single playoff loss that Watson wasn’t even healthy enough to start.

Is this the group that quit on Mayfield?

Yes but it sucks to say the Watson moved basically killed all the good that was done by the FO. So I thought Berry did some good things, great things and poor things. Add one monumental screw up at the most important position and things go crazy. He still has a couple years but if he doesn’t pick the right QB again…it’s over. So I get not trying the rebuild this year but only a matter of time if they can’t nail a draft or two

If you don’t have your QB, you’re rebuilding in the NFL in my opinion
