He turned down the Browns due to the fact he did not waive his no trade clause to Cleveland. He was not going to Cleveland until they ponied up the fully guarantee contract. So yes naturally he waived it to go to Cleveland.
As I said would it be OK if we just go only by what we know? First, because he had a no trade clause that's why they did what they did in first place.....found out where Deshaun was willing to go. Of more than a dozen inquiries, 6 were chosen and Cleveland was one.

He never agreed to go anywhere other than Cleveland. we have no idea how far other teams would have or did go.

9 12 or 27 teams is irrelevant considering 1 team he waived his no trade clause and Cleveland was not it. Miami is what he truly wanted and settled for Cleveland since he got the entire pie. Can't blame him for that but please don't act like the Browns were number 1 on his list.
He had to waive his no trade clause to meet with any of the 6 teams that he chose. Browns were one.

Get it together.

This. A number of teams were interesting in signing this POS. But Cleveland offered more guaranteed money then anyone else by a large margin. They basically forced the player to take a deal from a team he had previously rejected, who wouldn't take that deal?

They tried the hardest to acquire a man like this so they deserve the criticism that comes with that decision. I think most everyone around the league smiled when it blew up in their faces.
There are many things for which to be critical of the Browns. Really no need to make things up. But here we are with a few.

You have no idea if other teams might have offered more than the Browns, let alone not by a large margin. The Browns went after a player pretty much every team without a QB trying to win made a major play for.

While wish someone else got him not gonna rip my team for going all out to get a guy so many wanted.

That's right we have no idea what interest level other teams had in Watson or if it was serious. We only know what the Browns traded and what contract they gave him. Yet you keep making shit up like the part in bold.

Kind of contradicting yourself. So you say we have no idea if other teams offered more but then say every team without a QB was making a major play for? So can you name all those teams and what your sources are for the draft capital and contract?

I also believe there are teams that needed a QB that did NOT make a play (or gave something ridiculously low) due to the character/locker room concerns/media attention, and the fact he was out of football for 1 full year and likely to be suspended (which he was) for all of or a large portion of the following year.

We know 12 teams showed interest.....Watson himself narrowed it down to 6.......all 6 made an offer Houston was willing to accept for the right to meet with him.......Watson chose the Browns.

If you know other teams who needed a QB, were trying to win and didn't make a play for him feel free to name them. Guess should have added no way to get a top QB with high pick in draft, for instance if were any in that draft (too lazy to see which draft it was).

I'll look later for a different source but this pretty much breaks it down.....

I mean I'm not disagreeing other teams were interested in him or wouldn't take him on the roster, but when you say a MAJOR play for, that's where I'm questioning it. 'Interested in' does not mean willing to make a MAJOR play for.

That post just says other teams were interested. Well duh, of course other teams would be interested. Who was interested for even close to what the Browns gave up? That's the question we'll never know.

Seattle was interested in Fries, but not interested in giving up $18M per year for a 1 year wonder guard who the Vikes didn't even medically examine (prior to signing) lol.

well the only teams who could make the major play (meaning an offer to Houston) had to first be approved by Watson. And he would not approve everyone.

Last comment kind of explains it (well, before he wrote "remember that when you jump ship").

I'd even be willing to bet most who claimed they jumped ship would have climbed back on had he played as those teams thought he would.

We don't know if 12 teams showed interest, all we know is what was said on the rumor mill, much which is click bait. Show me evidence that 6 teams made an offer Houston was willing to accept, rumors don't count.

like what would be evidence in your mind? Seeing the actual offer they sent them? We know Houston would not allow meetings unless they had an offer they would accept. We know he met with the Browns, NO, Atlanta, Carolina, Miami (don't recall 6th team).

But it's cool if you would rather believe no one wanted him that badly...just the Browns.

Before I show you can you first say what you'd deem proof? Does it need to be an actual offer on team letterhead made to Houston?
Show me something official, do not show me rumors, opinions, gossip or speculation.

This does nothing to change the truthfulness of what I had said. Yes other teams were making offers. Your Cleveland Browns tried the hardest, as you said made a major play, by offering more guaranteed money than any other team was willing to offer to sign such a man. So they deserve the criticism that comes with that decision.
