Vikings overpay for Jonathan Allen. 3 years 60 million.

Still a pretty big upgrade.

Vikes have given over 500 snaps in each of the the last two years to Johnathon Bullard. Even a declined Allen is a pretty big upgrade for a defense that has been pretty solid with some really pedestrian interior DL play.

And my Vikes also just handed a 5 year $88M deal to Will Fries after signing his fellow Colt OL Ryan Kelly yesterday.

Spending money like a drunken sailor. Answered pretty much all of their big needs already though.

If JJ is the real deal, this team is going to be pretty scary. Huge if though.

Glancing at Walterfootball and the only 'bad' grades on FA signings I'm seeing:

Grady Jarrett to the Bears: D
Luke Farrell to the Niners: D
Eric Murray to the Jags: D
Javon Kinlaw to the Commies: Matt Millen
Ben Bredeson to the Bucs: D-
DT Jones to the Broncos: Matt Millen
Myles Garrett to the Browns: D
Tutu Atwell to the Rams: D

I haven't followed Javon Kinlaw but he does seem like a bit of a bust. Myles Garrett going 'all in' with the Browns does just seem like a money move on both sides and not actually something that will have a championship window. I think there are two grades lower than Matt Millen so it seems like nothing too crazy, tbh.

Yeah, it makes sense for Cleveland, honestly. A guy with some decent starting experience who can play if needed. Not well, mind you, but that's why littlefingers is on his third team.

The way I see it, Howie accounted for his mistake of trading a third for Pickett by moving him. He was not worth a third, but in this QB-starved league, a former first round choice is going to command some value from teams who think they can rehabilitate him.

As it turned out, Pickett was very clearly outplayed by Tanner McKee both in preseason and in the regular season when both got a shot to play, and thus became expendable. DTR is a throw-in, and I know from my Browns buddy at work that he apparently looked awful last year, but I could see Philly trying to keep him for a season and try to develop him as the #3.
Sounds about right....and DTR did look awful last year. Looked OK in 2023...at least for a 3rd round rookie.

My only push back was on how absurd it was to try and rip the Browns in any way for this move, what DTR had done or will be, etc (not that you made such a comment).

Could also see Philly keeping him as can at least attempt to run a similar offense to what they do with Hurts.

For sure Myles is a money move for him. Never a doubt. Have heard his agent spin his 180 and curious to hear what Myles says (think he will talk today or later in week). Guessing will be along lines of after giving it more thought he believes in his teammates and was just not in a good place after a 3-14 finish. Ready to get to work and help lead them back to playoffs. Not to say it will happen OR that he's a leader (he's not IMO).

as to the D grade? Guy is arguably a top 5 player in the sport (granted, not at a position needed to pay a ton to win a title). Could still be in prime way he takes care of himself a while.....but can also agree with the notion should have just traded him. But maybe didn't get an offer that made sense?

I went over to check the grades, I noticed they still use Commanders old logo and name. Seems like a strange choice, I wonder if they ever put their thoughts on why behind it.

like their grades though, most seem dialed in. Under value Morgan Moses though

If you are honest and go back in history and grade all free agent signings, I bet you probably only about 35% of signings would be considered good in hindsight.

Free agency is more often than not fool's gold.

I normally would be pretty nervous about my Vikes making splashes like this. But the last 3 years they have done an incredible job of finding the right talent on the FA market. But that kind of success in a area that doesnt have a coin flip chance of being correct usually will correct itself in time so maybe this is the year that we sign a bunch of lemons.

Man, I’m not sure what the Eagles are doing with this CJGJ trade. I know they like their young safeties but Gardner Johnson wasn’t around in 2023 and the defense lacked that confidence, swagger, and toughness. It was back last year. I’m not in the room so I don’t know his real impact on the team but from afar it seems like CJGJ is a dog that makes the guys around him better.

Anybody have any data on the quality of the guard coming back? This guy will likely compete with Steen for the opening created with Becton moving on in free agency.
