I am not so sure this is evidence for a league involvement conspiracy, but there is a ton of players in the league all year who routinely travel. Abdul-Jabbar has often mentioned just how bad it has gotten. Shaq has mentioned it, Charles Barkley and Jerry West have also drawn attention to the traveling issue league-wide.
