1st-rder Bryce Eldridge signs w/ SF for $3,997,500 (pick 16 value = $4,326,600). Virginia HS, best two-way guy in the draft. Will try both as pro, most scouts prefer him as 1B w/power & feel to hit, also three-pitch RHP up to 96 w/fastball. Alabama recruit.

I was wondering when he would sign. Now to see how many more picks the Giants can ink.

Per MLB Trade Rumors:
"San Francisco also signed 52nd pick Walker Martin for an overslot $2.9975MM bonus. An Arkansas commit, Martin is a power-hitting infielder from a Colorado high school."

Seems they used the savings from Eldridge on Martin.

According to Baseball America, the Giants have signed all their draft picks except for the 4th round pick (Maui Ahuna) and the 11th round pick (Jack Payton). Both are college players. The deadline to sign ended 15 minutes ago, so, unless their signing have just not been reported, it would seem that these two are the only ones not signed by the Giants.

Missed on a 4th rounder? I don’t remember the last time they failed to sign such a high pick.

I assume he is a junior and they weren't willing to pay him what he wanted. I haven't looked to see the slot values but here is what the Giants gave to each of the top 10 round picks:

Caden Kendle (Cardinals) was the only player drafted in the first 10 rounds who did not sign.

I couldn't fine the details for Ahuna, but apparently he signed.

It is official. All draft picks, plus 3 NDFAs, have signed and have been assigned to rosters. Here is the breakdown of number of players by team (with highest player drafted in parenthesis):
San Jose - 1 (Luke Shliger, 6th round pick, catcher)
ACL Giants Black - 12 (Joe Whitman, supplemental 2nd round pick, pitcher)
ACL Giants Orange - 11 (Bryce Eldridge, 1st round pick, pitcher!)

There is one who is on the IL for the rest of the season - 10th round pick Ryan Vanderhei. The other 23 players are active.

Cole Foster off to a blazing hot streak in his professional career. In his 1st 7 games with the ACL Giants Black, he has gone 10 for 30 with 2 doubles and 3 home runs. He does have only 1 walk and 10 Ks though.

He needs to be in SJ or Augusta. He was a college player at a major program. Putting him in dev ball doesn’t challenge him. Those are little more than scrimmages.

Except that ACL is now what Salem-Keizer used to be. It is a bit surprising that so many draft picks are in the ACL to start. However, they only have 24 players with San Jose right now (they can carry 28) so I wouldn't be surprised to see some promotions soon.

Also, 1st round pick Eldridge is listed as a pitcher on the ACL Giants Orange roster but the only playing time he's gotten so far is in right field. He is 1 for 9 with 5 walks so far.

Meanwhile, last year's 1st round pick, Crawford, doesn't show on any roster but he has made 5 starts with Eugene of 1 IP per game. He hasn't taken an at-bat since getting moved up to Eugene.

I know its too early to analyze this year's draft but I do want to point out that the Braves' 1st round pick has already gotten further than any of our 2023 draft picks (by 3 levels) and further than any of our 1st round picks from 2019, 2021 or 2022 as well.

From MLBTradeRumors:
  • Right-hander Hurston Waldrep’s season is over, as the Braves prospect won’t pitch again in 2023 after tossing 4 1/3 scoreless innings in his first Triple-A start yesterday. The 24th overall pick of the 2023 draft, Waldrep had pitched so well in his first professional season that there had been some speculation that the Braves could turn to the 21-year-old as a secret weapon out of the bullpen for the end of the regular season and into the playoffs. However, Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that the Braves didn’t want to rush things with the young hurler, and the Triple-A debut came about because the organization wanted Waldrep to get one more outing since the Double-A season is already over. Baseball America and MLB Pipeline each rate Waldrep as the #2 prospect in Atlanta’s farm system, and the righty has delivered a 1.53 ERA and a 33.3% strikeout rate over 29 1/3 total innings, split between A-ball, high-A, Double-A, and Triple-A.
