Tony Jones does nothing for me. Not a receiver, not an effective runner and not much on special teams.
Just looking at a bit of video and he has good vision, good body control, adequate shiftiness, adequate receiving ability, will run with adequate physicality. He was paid $825K by Seattle last year. I haven't seen what we're paying him but it probably isn't very much. He's a good camp body and depth into the regular season if guys start dropping with injuries.

Tony Jones Jr. physically compares with Pierre Thomas but has never played like Thomas. I'm sure he signed for minimum money.

Jones is a little bigger. So he's not as quick but, surprisingly, he also doesn't appear to be as strong either. Jones also doesn't have Thomas' vision.

Surprised there hasn’t been a Latavius Murray conversation given the familiarity to Payton. Maybe that has something to do with it. Perhaps waiting for his number to come down? He was a rare beacon of light on a dismal squad last year.

He really was but you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank.

Of course. Maybe his roll is just what it was last year. Break glass in case of emergency.

They might end up with a bunch of guys on the roster and on the Practice Squad as they go through the year. Still don't know what Javonte Williams is going to look like when he does come back.

I will follow Payton's lead. He has proven himself.

Random
One thing I have noticed about Payton like nearly every coach is he does have some end of the roster players he kept around on the Saints who you sorta wondered what he saw in them at times. Every coach does this though. I just remember Payton having those 4-5 guys that he always kept around that didn't make a big impact and would last on his team for awhile. I remember having a few Saints fans I knew who would always mention that as well. Tony Jones could be one of those guys that he just loves as a person so he keeps him around in a limited role. Obviously you can't suck and stick around but there are players who get the benefit of the doubt who may know and be in your system for awhile with Sean.

Every coach has a few of them, Payton seemed to be perhaps a little more then your average coach.

Even at the hs level when I coached guys made the team who had no legit means of ever making an impact on the field. But off it they set the example of leadership, work ethic, and were team builders you knew made your team stronger. They're usually locker room favorites, and God help you if they ever did get on the field and make a play. Lol

Yeah, exactly.

You obviously have to be good in the NFL but leadership, work ethic and mentality count for so much.

Thinking back to High School. You always had that one suck up in your grade that shouldn't be playing that got to play. ;) We had a kid who was like that when I played. Didn't like contact but wanted to be on the field and somehow managed to weasel is way onto the field and never helped us AT ALL. My classmates and I still talk about this happening every time we get together. Inside joke amongst us.

I can remember in practice he would get mad if you tackled him too hard.

Signed two coaches over the weekend; Joe Vitt coming out of retirement as well as Jamar Cain from LSU to work our pass rush. Cain is a good hire who has wanted to make the jump to the NFL in the past few years.

I know he doesn't offer what he did when we first signed him but I am all for Kareem Jackson back and fitting into the right role on this team. Will be crazy to think if we do re-sign him for another year that his original 2 year contract when we first signed him would end up into a 5 year contract(since this would make his 3rd year of re-signing for 1 year)
