Perk said something tonight and it all made sense. They did not want to offer the 5th year and if you remember in the fall that was the reason they could not come to an agreement. By allowing him to sign with another team, it guarantees the longest deal he can get is 4 which is what they wanted to offer all along

Might be interesting to see the team chemistry after CP is gone though. Ayton got a lot of money but he’s probably not the happiest guy around.

He's likely getting traded though, for Durant or Turner or someone. There was some kind of falling out with the team during the WCF. Even Monte Williams kind of alluded to it.

Pretty sure he can't get traded until middle of the season once the contract is signed

I can see where Ayton was probably really pissed he didn't get an extension. But now that the Suns have shown they think he's worth it maybe he feels different.

It was a big risk doing it this way for Phoenix for sure
