Mitchell, Brunson, Randle isn’t a Big 3 that will make waves. But… if they can shed the salary around that group over time they may have room to add a legit max guy and then they have something. But it’s the Knicks so somewhere along that way they’ll fuck it up.
Yeah I mean in any scenario New York fucks it up, no way around it

Windy on Dan Patrick says that he thinks the Lakers will make a significant trade involving Westbrook. He just doesn't know if it will be before or during the season. Says that they are willing to trade both 1st round picks, but not for a package that just moves them from a projected 9th seed to a projected 7th seed. Basically, they aren't giving up both picks just to move Westbrook.

I think the hield turner one is fantastic for them

I don’t love their pg situation in that case, but it’s still an upgrade

Trade a few seconds to get that euro pg who refuses to play for the thunder? Lol

They should do it. Mitchell isn't a franchise guy, but he is a pretty darn good player. Even with the picks, you should have to give up more than salary filler and Obi Toppin. Cut a couple of the picks off of Utah's ridiculous asking price (isn't it like 5 picks?), add Barrett and that's a fair offer.

It's a really convenient way to dodge the Barrett extension in NY.

I would include him. Mitchell is a far better player than Barrett and I am not paying Barrett anywhere close to max money. If it means only give up a couple 1st's include him. They can try to build around Mitchell which won't work but paying Barrett max money is just digging themselves into a bigger hole.

Maybe a change for better will help him evolve.

I'm not a huge Barrett guy, but he flashed enough the prior year that a team is going to be worried about dealing him.

I think it depends just how many 1st you get to keep.

Obi, Barrett, Randle, McBride and how many firsts? If it's 2 or 3, I think you say fuck it and do it.

You will have fournier, quickly and 5 firsts next summer to make another big add if you want.

The real question is.....

Are you really doing anything other than being Portland east with two small guards? I know Mitchell has a huge wingspan and had a defensive rep at Louisville, but it hasn't played out that way in the NBA, especially playing so much 2.

I don't think Utah is interested in Barrett. Fournier could be added but if you also include Obi I think 2 or 3 more 1st's should do the trick.

I would offer Barrett, Fournier, Obi and 2 1st's if they want Randle, swap Randle for Fournier

Add in Bev and I'd make that trade.
Gotta be either Clarkson or Pat Bev to match salaries, Lakers can't take back an extra $11M. I would take Pat Bev over Clarkson but Utah might want to keep Pat Bev bc he is an expiring contract

The Lakers still have one roster spot open, so a 2 for 3 could work (as would a Pacers deal of Russ and picks for 2 players). As you noted though, that's pretty steep for more depth than they really need.

I'm curious about what they do with those roster spots. Any trade sounds like its gonna bring back at least 2, maybe 3 players. But they also seem to be bring back Melo (who has been waiting for all the KD/Kyrie shit to settle) and also looking into possibly signing Dennis Schroder. That's more people than chairs available. If they do want all those guys, they're either shipping more people out in the trades or they're cutting one or two of those min contract guys.
