More power rankings post free agency and more praise for Philadelphia front office.

30. Philadelphia Flyers

Between buying out Oskar Lindblom, conceding in the Gaudreau sweepstakes, and dishing out multi-year contracts to Tony DeAngelo and Nicolas Deslauriers, it wasn't a banner offseason for the Flyers. Perhaps John Tortorella can rally Philly to a bounce-back year on will and determination alone.

Translation: The franchise is a mess and we totally suck and will for some time to come!

John Tortorella will have an easier time getting monkeys to fly out of his ass!

Shock of the summer, the Flyers are not last!

Only guys providing positive value compared to their contract (according to Dom) are Farabee, Konecny, Frost (barely), Deangelo, and Sanheim.

Bottom three were Hayes, Deslauries, and Ristolainen. JvR's -$3M in value per year was t-3rd worst (w/ Provorov) behind Hayes and Ristolainen.

Did they need to sign Nicolas Deslauriers to a four-year deal? No. Did they need to sign Rasmus Ristolainen to a five-year deal? No. Boom, there’s a nice $6.9 million right there. And the team is better for it. That’s the problem here. Neither of those two moves the needle and in fact might actively be hurting the team. And yet, they take up almost 10 percent of the cap. For a long time.

I blew snot bubbles reading an article on next years UFA class. Here is what set me off:

Other notable players: Joe Pavelski, Tyler Bertuzzi, James van Riemsdyk, Max Pacioretty

Very good article - what I’m looking at is they dropped 13 spots over the course of the year. That is ALL on Fletcher

Yep. I liked where they were going in to last year. Made some moves to try to take the next step forward, but positioned well to alter course and go in to a rebuild if it didn't work.

Problem was, Fletcher either positioned himself like that by accident and didn't realize it. Or forgot. And instead signed Ristolainen and put himself in a hole that he dug even further by signing Deslauries and Deangelo. And bringing Braun back and touting him as helping the PK was the cherry on top of the "i dont know what I'm doing" sundae.

Spot on Awaz. I don't know why or how WTFC got his position but he simply is either schizophrenic or he conveniently dissociates from reality in conjunction with developing temporary insanity to achieve CYA. The little lying bastard is always CYA whenever someone calls him out but NOONE KNOWS his purpose or reasoning for doing things.

The end result is often more chaos and confusion and a continued running the franchise into the ground. I can see why Torts initially supports him because if he didn't he couldn't do his job the way he wants and his life as a coach for the next three years will be nothing but misery.

Flames seriously opened the pocketbook on Huberdeau. Wonder what the $10MM is going to look like when he’s 38-40.

But then again, if there’s a Cup along the way - I’d be all in.

I would add Couturier (yes, even at $7.75M), Laughton ($3M) and Braun ($1M) to the list of guys providing positive value compared to their contracts as well. If these three guys are healthy, they will at least earn every penny of these contracts.
