I've heard some good things about this guy. He should help someone quite a bit.

Never heard of him before, but it looks like he can hit, hit for power, and run. He's also listed as a 3b/SS/OF although it looks like he's only been playing OF the last few years.

The long-time trade chip of the Yankees. Wonder if a team will take a flyer claim on him?

Or more likely a minor league FA signing post rule 5.

Yeah, what happened to him? He was so highly touted and he has never amounted to much in the majors.

injuries and some underperformance keeping him in the minors, I guess. Also looked like a crappy defender and with their influx of 1B/corner OF/DH types there didn't seem to be any obvious routes for playing time for him

And Steve Cohen is none too pleased this morning that Matz's agent used the Mets to drive up the Cards' offer.

I though that was what an agent was supposed to do.

:noidea:

That would be my thought. I am surprised in all the prior trades they couldn't find a taker, seems like a lost asset. But who is complaining it is the Yankees. :D

Per MLB Network, Cohen said that the Mets were to be given a chance to match the offer. He is upset.

Concussions have ended several promising careers. I hope he can get his resolved.

Should be some major movement today in advance of Wednesday's impending lockout.

A bit of an "over-pay" IMO. He is an excellent pitcher, but $43MM/year is a bit too much. It is a foolish contract to offer, but he would be foolish to turn it down.
They brought in Marte, Canha and Escobar over the weekend.

Giving a 38 year old pitcher $43M per year is something, but it is Max Scherzer and they are the Mets. I think they know they have to go big to have any chance.
