The marriage between the Lakers and James is in a precarious spot. The relationship between Klutch Sports, led by James’ agent Rich Paul, and the franchise is at its lowest point. Decisions made in July, August and ahead of the February 10 trade deadline have led to a dysfunctional situation. And it’s becoming increasingly clear the Lakers need to come to terms early with James—August 4, specifically—or part ways. That’s when James is eligible for a two-year extension that could max out at $97.1 million through the 2024-25 season.

In the context of the Lakers’ drama this season, James’ praise of Presti could be seen as a passive-aggressive swipe at Lakers Vice President of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka. According to multiple NBA sources, Klutch is not happy with Pelinka. The sentiment has long percolated, but it reached a boil when Pelinka refused to trade Westbrook and a future first-round pick (likely 2027) for Houston Rockets guard and Klutch client John Wall.

I see it from both ends. From an outside object view (because I'm not a Lakers fan, nor do I despise that organization), I don't see the Lakers in the wrong. Pelinka made a splash to try and add someone to help with the load for Lebron and AD. After more than half a season, it's clear as day that Russ is not a fit with Lebron and AD. We're in the latter part of February and the Lakers are a game and a half out of the playoffs right now.

I'm sure Pelinka made an effort to trade Russ for assets, but Russ is sitting at the same level of Wall where the question comes up - who wants to take a horrid contract like that on. A trade for Russ and Wall isn't going to really move the needle for the Lakers, IMO (I'm willing to debate that . topic). Couple that with the fact that the Lakers would've had to give up a 1st round pick for Wall is beyond insane. That may be a lotto pick in 2027 as Lebron will likely have been retired or not even playing for the Lakers.

But what works against the Lakers, and has been a theme with Lebron wherever he's been - Lebron and his management team are going to get their input. You should've known what you're getting into. Worst case - you trade Lebron, but got a title out of him.

Just such a disfunctionsl situation. On top of that we have Lebron making it known that whoever wants him better draft his boy. I’m sure no team will try to use that against whoever tries to make it happen by taking him just to get a draft pick or something out of the deal lol.
What's Bronny right now? A Jr/Sr in HS?

I wouldn't waste a 1st round on Bronny just to lure Lebron to my team. Especially if Bronny's slated to be a 2nd round pick. That's a lot to give up if you're really only going to get a year of a potential 40-year old Lebron.

Time for someone to call Lebron's bluff.

He's upset they didn't use a 1st to get Wall?

Trade his ass.

Pelinka shouldn't have said LeBron was on board if he wasn't. And this isn't the first time that idiot from ann arbor said something dumb. A few years ago he told a fake story about Kobe having dinner with Heath Ledger after he passed away.

article- Rob Pelinka once told a fake story about Kobe Bryant dining with Heath Ledger (5/28/19)

Maybe next Rob will say Juwan Howard did nothing wrong after that Wisconsin/meeeechegan game?

can they trade him?

I mean he likely has a no trade clause right?

Where do you trade him to? What kind of package are you looking for?

Jeanie and Pelinka have to draw the line with this shit.

You wanted Russ, you got him.

Now that it isn't working, you want us to waste another future asset to.get another Klutch client that won't change the teams fortunes?

I'm really hoping this shit isn't true. But, fat Windhorst wouldn't report it if there wasn't some truth to it.

How is this shit any different from what Kyrie did to force his way out of Cleveland?

Didn't Kyrie threaten to have surgery?

Same as he was doing last week, in the wake of the trade deadline inaction, when he spoke about how his recent knee injury would likely bother him the rest of the season. The knee surely is an issue, but James was also laying the groundwork to give himself options depending on how the rest of the season plays out for the Lakers (27-31). What James is doing is likely aimed at one primary goal: Force the Lakers into major action this summer. He tried to do it nicely and now he’s doing it harshly.

If LeBron really did have a hand in the creation of the Westbrook acquisition he doesn’t have a leg to stand on. If he never wanted that move then he has a right to be pissed.

Previous actions don’t matter to Lebron, he has no problem with hypocrisy. Just like the whole “someone needs to be fired” bs over the play in but not until it affected the Lakers.

Yeah, Pelinka is really slimmy for that Kobe story.

That is a disgusting lie.

Looks like he's at it again.

I'd have to imagine that Pelinka floated the idea over to Lebron, at the very least.

And you are taking his quote out of context.

The JV soccer players he was referring to are the sports writers who vote for the award.

Some of them don’t have an athletic bone in their bodies.
Not taken out of context at all. He was trying to say how little stats mean and his biased eye test means more.

For the next All-Star game, I would rather see a celebrity three point contest.

Maybe have known rivals compete for their charities.
Musicians with grudges.
Maybe have politicians involved.
Pros from other sports.

I would find it more entertaining watching folks who think they know how to shoot actually try to shoot.
