James, who returned to Cleveland in 2014 on a max contract, isn’t interested in taking a midlevel exception now.

“I don’t play midlevel basketball,” James said. “I don’t come back for anything below the top.”

There is one caveat to that, however. James said Saturday he’ll go anywhere to play with his son, Bronny James.
"My last year will be played with my son," James said. "Wherever Bronny is at, that's where I'll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It's not about the money at that point."

I mean, his point was the Lakers and Dodgers didn't get parades when they won because of Covid, why not do one for all three LA recent champions? Don't really have a problem with him asking

There was actually talk of having one for them after things opened back up, but that didn't happen fast enough.

I liked the teams format of the skills challenge because it brought some strategy into the mix. The dunk contest brought the whole night down. By the time that ended, I don't think there was much of the crowd left. lol

Might need to change that to something else if they can't get actual stars instead of guys trying to make a name for themselves.

That dunk contest was truly horrible.

That was the best of the best? Not one true showman among them... even worse, barely any dunk attempts could even be consummated. :L

The format of the skills challenge might be okay, but they need better players.

Sorry, but 2 randos off the street would be as good as Giannis’ brothers.

I like the home trio, but we don’t need to see Jarret Allen in a skills challenge. Ditto for Scottie Barnes. Put him in the dunk contest instead.

And really, Garland was the only player in the entire competition who is super highly skilled by NBA standards. Giddey and Cade maybe in a couple years.

I actually kind of liked having a guy like Jarret Allen in there because of the strategy that was involved in "covering" for him. The idea of the Antetokumpo brothers competing as a team was a fun idea. But when you consider that 1 is barely in the league and the other is a G-League dude, it didn't work as good as it could have if Thanasis and Alex were better players.

The NBA really needs to figure out a way to get more stars participating in this. That was always the biggest attraction. Things like MJ vs. 'Nique in the dunk contest made all star weekend must watch.

Not only that, but Giannis isn’t even highly skilled by NBA standards.

Too many guys in the league who can pass, shoot and dribble to be showcasing players who can’t.

Nobody wants to do this shit at the end of the day. They had to provide access to Giannis brothers they wouldn’t normally have just in order to get him to compete.

On the dunk contest. There's just only so many ideas and most of the good ones have been taken. And the guys that do find a way to be innovative end up with such a ridiculous degree of difficulty that they can't make the damn thing. It's honestly just not entertaining for me personally anymore and I wish they'd nix it and do something new.

I liked the idea of having a team of rookies and a team from the city of the game. The other team just didn’t make any sense at all though.

Was kinda thinking the same thing. Is Bronny that good...?

He's 17 and a junior in high school. Looks like Rivals has him as the #34 prospect for 2023, 247 has him at #52 and ESPN as #49...so it's pretty safe to say that unless he makes a huge jump between now and then, he's not going to be ready for the NBA out of high school like his Dad. If he's going to make it to the NBA, looks like he'll need to develop more in college. Doubt he can even be a one and doner.

Imo, that's why they need to find a way to get the stars to participate or come up with something better. Back when the stars were competing every year you had 1. Guys who could actually make the higher degree of difficulty dunks and 2. They didn't have to keep trying so hard to increase the level of difficulty because of who they were. Heck, probably the most iconic picture/highlight all time is still MJ taking off from the free throw line.

You also ended up with more powerful dunks, which is part of the point of the dunk.

They'd have to pay em properly and I'm not sure they care enough to do that.

I'd like to see a change to the CBA where we vote em in and make em participate lol

He said the money doesn't matter.

Also should be noted that he said he wants to play his last season with bronny. No guarantee that bronny 1st season will be his last
Yeah but that is to join Bronny. In two years what if he is still playing at a very high level. Would he join a young, talented Cavs team and take a major paycut still averaging star numbers? I think the paycut was to join Bronny in his final year

I am not sure that is true.

There have been big names doing the skills contest every year.

It isn’t like the dunk contest. Not super taxing.

And I don’t want to see Giannis compete in this either! He isn’t highly skilled.

Give me the Curry brothers + Dell if you want the family thing.
