but him out...lol

Klove with 18, and 7.5 in December on 49% shooting from 3. He has also been one of the best FT shooters in the league.

doing all that on 22 minutes a night. Cut him though. Pay him 30 mill to do nothing but help LeBron win on the Lakers. Great idea.
I do get why trojan advocated for that idea, though.

Why I never understood the notion so many had that we should just let him go and pay him to help someone else.

Sure, never thought he would play like this again, though.

Because nobody thought the Cavs would be a playoff team this year.

Most figured play in game at best.

OK...so? Why pay him to help another team? No reason to not at least see how he fits in with the new guys first.

I never thought it would actually happen, even though I wanted it to. Dudes issue was never that he forgot how to play and his skillset is one that tends to favor a longer career.

Got criticized by some fellow Lakers fans for it...so now I occasionally remind them of his stats. lol

Its not about paying him to play for another team as much as clearing cap space for themselves while freeing him up to maybe go chase a ring somewhere else. Im sure the Cavs love what he is doing for the team, but Id bet that they dont love what they are paying him for it.

They would have been over the cap regardless, especially if just a buy out. I'm sure they'd rather be paying him less......but, again, makes even less sense to pay him nearly what they are paying him to help someone else. Without first seeing how he fit in?

buying him out doesnt clear away any cap space though. Even if he "gave money back" it still doesnt clear cap space.

main reason I never understood why people said buy him out.

Guy has an issue with getting healthy no doubt- but you just dont forget how to shoot. ANd like it or not- KEvin Love is prob. a hall of famer.

Agree and didn't know the Cavs would still be over the cap. That changes it a bit.

they have handled him perfectly. What I always thought should happen -and what I said last summer is- you keep him one more year, see if you can get him back to being useful- if you can awesome, if he keeps getting hurt- the following year he is expiring. Either "stretch" him at that point, or use him in a deal. You dont want to stretch someone with 2 years left- or you end up having his cap hit for 5 years a la Luol Deng- even if it is a modest cap hit.

I suspect next year, if they wanted to, they could move off him since he is expiring.

Have to give a ton of credit to Bickerstaff and his coaches who have done an amazing job with him- bringing him along slowly and limiting minutes. The Cavs had a good plan with Love- and to his credit- it seems that he is rejuvenated with these young guys who are pretty decent at basketball.

Shit- right now- with how he has been playing- comeback player is prob. not out of the stretch of the imigination IF (and its a BIG if) he can stay healthy.

Health has always been the problem. All of the injuries/covid lately have led Bickerstaff to play Love more than I think they want to. Even Rubio got hurt in a game with huge minutes and huge responsibility since Garland was out. I dont think that was coincedence. Rubio was going ham- almost triple double--- but it was too much strain. IF Garland is there- and Rubio has more limited minutes maybe he doesnt go down. Who knows.

well, as you know, buying a guy out doesnt remove him from your cap- just gets him off the team--- even if say Love agreed to give back 6 million of the 30 million he was owed- that still doesnt come off the cap charge for him- if it did then any team could finagle cap numbers all the time.

A buyout saves money. The player surrenders a portion of the salary.

Pretty easy to see why a non-contending team would want to do that for a bad contract.

Yeah, I was thinking it would lower their cap. Definitely made more sense for the Cavs to see what he can still do and how he fit before doing anything.

agree was a little surprised he played so much as they had said they will limit minutes and would resist playing him much more than the usual 20. Guess they felt they just couldn't lose another one.

I would add I also thought the narrative why they need to just dump or buy out was overblown. Many said teammates didn't like him which seems to be completely false at least based on what we see and what they have said about him.

And the "meltdowns"? I recall one that mattered much when he threw the ball, I believe, at Osman when guys held the ball too long. The one where he batted it in was way overblown. First, they never should have allowed the bucket. He needs to have the ball in his possession to pass it in. Second, it was him being disgusted with the refs, not his teammates as was originally reported (and his teammates had his back). He could have done what many do and just not gotten back on defense while yelling at the ref.

To save a few mil? also easy to see why a team who believed to be ascending would first want to see what he could do to help them.

Buy him out and he plays like this for someone else? You just change your narrative to ripping them for not seeing what he could do here first......and you'd then be right.

Have to admit I thought it was a little premature, but would have been a matter of time had they waited.

wonder if the national media who ripped the Cavs for this will offer a mea culpa.

When did Christian Wood play for the Cavs? Don't even remember him with the team.

you think Dan G. gives a shit about 6 million dollars if it has no cap ramifications if there is a chance the player can actually benefit the team? ha

Gilbert is worth about 38 billion. The highest in the NBA is Ballmer at about 78 billion. Third is nowhere close to Gilbert- like 19 billion. Ballmer is by faaaar the wealthiest. Gilbert easily 2nd richest in the NBA.

Who would even make such a foolhardy suggestion?

Please show me where I ripped them.

I answered your questions about why a team would want to buy a player out and about why people thought Love would be a buyout candidate.

That is all.

Be back when the Cavs implode.

Seriously, Mobley is a monster.

Always loved Garland.

Love is making me look very silly.

Cavs dodged a huge bullet getting Porter Jr. out of that lockerroom.

I don't know about Rondo from a basketball prospective.

Dude looks very washed. But, what was the alternative?

Cavs have been impressive and they look very much like a playoff team.

Congrats.
