My issue on the MVP conversation is this:
If your top 3 is changing almost weekly, then you are way too prisoner of the moment.
To actually WIN MVP, a player needs to check all of these boxes IMO:
1: superstar caliber stats
2: high level winning team
3: lack of a peer on the roster who could also get MVP consideration
4: Staying power- 1 hit wonders never win. Got to back it up for multiple seasons to really be in the conversation
There is a reason why LeBron didn’t win the first year AD was in LA. It was because AD was playing at a similarly high level. Lavine is playing at the same level that DeRozan is. Trying to somehow say that his production is MVP level but LaVine’s isn’t is completely arbitrary.
Especially since DeRozan’s track record is that his past teams tend to be about the same (or better) after he leaves.
As for LeBron, if the Lakers get to the top 4 then maybe we can talk about. But bottom line, they were supposed to be a contender pre season and they have only been a disappointment.
