Players who definitely should not be on the list ahead of Dwight Howard and Klay Thompson:

In no particular order:

Sam Jones
Paul Arizin
Dennis Rodman
Dave DeBusschere
Earl the Pearl
Robert Parish
Dolph Schayes
Bill Sharman
Lenny Wilkens

Pick any 2 of these. Wilkins and Rodman would be my first 2 to go. Rodman so incredibly overrated to be put in a list like this.

Ewing needs to be on the list too.

Rodman ahead of Ewing?

Really?

Does anyone actually think Rodman was a better basketball player than Patrick Ewing?
I didn't look at the list, but I completely agree with your statement. I also do believe that Klay belongs in the top 75. Before the last two years where he suffered two major injuries respectively, he was regarded as the best two-way player (sans Kawhi) the last 4-5 years (IMO).

Howard for sure should have been on. He made a clown of himself in the mid-10s and people are holding that against him.

Yeah, I think there are 2 main factors involved.

1. His position changed on him. When he came into the league, the old school, back to the basket physically dominating centers were still a thing and he was one of the best at it. Roughly halfway into his career, the position changed on him virtually overnight to the point that his style of center became nearly extinct. He spent a few years putting up numbers on mostly bad/average teams and being all but forgotten. When he occasionally popped up on the radar during that time, it usually not for good reasons. Now he's reinvented himself as a defensive specialist and folks like him again, but it seems to be too little, too late.

2. As you mentioned, he had those seasons in the middle of his career where he became a clown and even the teams he was on, ended up not wanting him. Imo, he should replace Rodman, who also became a clown...but he was a very productive clown with his defense and rebounding. But as has been pointed out, was overrated.

My guy, Paul George, is really good and seems to have his head right.

Hot Sauce, Reggie Jackson, was off his game.

Bledsoe was both better, and worse, than expected.

Mook needs to do more.

Kennard needs to earn his check.

I heart T Mann.

Steph Curry is fucking Baba Yaga.

Just give him his damn MVP Award now.

Rodman gets more love because of who he played with and against.

Being undersized with a huge personality are also factors.

Still, Howard> Ben Wallace > Rodman

Lots of the greats turnout to be shitty human beings.

Yet, Howard gets judged by a harsher standard.

Yes, he's unlikable at times. But, he's not a SCUMBAG like Karl Malone, who most have as a top 2 power forward in history.

OK, who gets the boot for Howard?
Is Walton on the list?

He got into the Hall based MORE on his College career.

It being the BASKETBALL HoF, I get it.

This is different. It's based on the NBA, specifically.

Dude was Mr Glass his entire career...

Yeah, Dan Patrick just mentioned this a little bit ago. He says that Walton doesn't belong and he loves Bill Walton. He said that, while he was great when he could play, he just couldn't play enough.

Outside of the 1 year in Portland when they won the title, he's basically most well known for being a 6th man on the Celtics for about a season and a half. That's just not a top 75 player.

Mr. Glass singlehandedly won a championship in the NBA and was dominant for almost a decade.

Exactly.

People like to romanticize this guys career because he was a MONSTA in college and is such a fun, weed smoking hippie now.

But, his career was hampered by injuries. If Blake Griffin were to win a couple of chips hanging on Durant's coattails, we gonna put him on the top 100 list or put him in the Hall?

Hell no.

Their situations are not identical, obviously. Bill did win on his own. But, both got derailed by injury.

It's not apples to oranges, more oranges to tangerines..

But, you get my point.

I concede on the Chip.

But, his games played are as follows:

31, 51, 65, 58, 14, 33, 55, 67, 80 and 10.

If we are just basing it on time on the court, fuck it...

Put Zion and Blake on the list in a couple of years.

The best ability is availability.

Ps. My criteria for greatness might be different from yours. Championships are the deciding factor when everything else is equal.

Dwight had a better career.

Good lord

See, this fucking guy is a clown.

Do, I believe he's a weak-minded asshole?

Yes.

He's terrified to shoot and even more scared to face the Philly fans.

But, this is low. Don't trivialize mental health issues because you want to get paid for not playing.

On a side note: What is going on in Philly where their last two #1 overall picks have devolved into the Finals failure version of Nick Anderson?

We can't even blame this on Doc. Fultz's meltdown wasn't on his watch.

Side by side.

I didn't realize how good of a passer Bill was.

I can't say B. Walton was Mr. Glass his entire career when he lead the Blazer to a shocking Finals upset of Dr. J & Company back in '77. He was a damn good player before the injury bug got him. The '76, '77 (led the league in reb's & blks) & '78 seasons he averaged 17.9 ppg, 13.7 rebs, 4.4 asts, 1.0 stl, 2.4 blks.
