So Nebraska is looking to finish off a Top 20 class tomorrow with the hopeful addition of Demariyon Houston to the fold and perhaps signing Desmond Bland as well. So, while we wait for the big day, I thought... why not get jump started on the 2020 class. Nebraska already has one commitment for the 2020 class in 3-Star QB Logan Smothers (could be elevated to 4-star status soon) and there is plenty of talent around the state. The class looks to be in the 20-23 signee range So I have a Top 25+5 to look out for going into the spring.
Now, this isn't all the names, I couldn't fit them all on here, but some of the more pertinent ones according to my research. I will have a short blurb about the top 15 names, list the rest of the top 25 and then add on 5 more to be aware of. As always, things are fluid in recruiting, and the spring game will bring some clarity for the summer months. So, without further ado... here you go:
1. Turner Corcoran (4-Star, OT) [Lawrence, KS] - The #1 recruit on the board, and it's fairly obvious, is Corcoran. He's already visited Nebraska multiple times and recently made it up for a junior day. He will also be visiting this spring for a practice. This one will be a fight to the end though... Other teams interested are Kansas, Oklahoma and Ohio State.
2. Nash Hutmacher (4-Star, NT) [Chamberlain, SD] - Hutmacher is a nationally ranked wrestler and is seen by Nebraska as a Nose Tackle. The Huskers are the favorite to take this one and he is a good one. Might end up as one of the higher rated players in the class if he commits and does the camp circuit. Other schools: Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa State
3. Zavier Betts (4-Star, WR) [Bellevue, NE] - Betts has some grade issues that he needs to work out but don't be surprised if Nebraska recruits him hard and tries to get those things worked out in the process. He is one of the best athletes in the state and recently attended the Huskers junior day.
4. Xavier Watts (3-Star, WR) [Omaha, NE] - The Burke standout already has two teammates that signed with the Huskers in last class but despite his rating he also has quite a few suitors outside of Nebraska as well. Notre Dame, Iowa State, and Kansas State have offered. Nebraska will stay on him as much as possible.
5. Mookie Cooper (4-Star, ATH) [Saint Louis, MO] - Cooper is the type of athlete that thrives in Frost's offense and he knows it. He has shown a lot of interest early but has the whose who of the nation going after him. Michigan, Ohio State and Texas just to name a few. Cooper was supposed to make it to Nebraska for Junior Day but couldn't get there, so he went to Missouri instead. The Tiger's recent sanctions make it unlikely Cooper will go there in the end though.
6. Kevon Billingsley (4-Star, DT) [Saint Louis, MO] - Billingsley wanted to get to Nebraska for Junior Day but he couldn't get transportation. He has had Alabama, Arkansas and a host of other SEC schools offer. Nebraska needs NTs in this class... could Billingsley and Hutmacher be the dynamic duo they want?
7. Antonio Johnson (4-Star, DB) [East Saint Louis, IL] - Nebraska hasn't had a ton of reach into illinois of late but look to flip that trend with Johnson. The 4-star safety visited Nebraska for a Junior day and looks like he is looking to leave the state. Georgia is an option but Nebraska is making a strong play for him in the future.
8. Kaden Johnson (4-Star, OLB) [Minneapolis, MN] - The Gophers will be a tough fight for this one but Nebraska's recent success with Benhart, Spielman and Alston out of Minnesota lately makes this one interesting. The Huskers need more pass rushers and Johnson fits the bill
9. Antonio Doyle (3-Star, OLB) [Hazelwood, MO] - Another Missouri product that Nebraska is trying to gain traction with. His rating is lower than his actual talent level IMO and Nebraska likes his size and ability to play in space as a combination. He's another one that was supposed to make it for Junior Day but couldn't find a ride.
10. Cesar Reyes (4-Star, OT) [Tampa, FL] - Nebraska didn't have a ton of success in Florida for 2019 but will look to turn the tide there in 2020. Reyes is the type of OT prospect that could do just that. He's versatile and can play any position on the line. He has yet to visit Nebraska bust speaks very highly of the staff and seems to have the Huskers near the top of his list. Kentucky and Louisville are also after him.
11. Ky Thomas (3-Star, RB) [Topeka, KS] - Thomas got an offer at Junior Day and he is the type of RB that rarely comes out of the midwest. He has speed and size and will continue to garner headlines throughout his senior year no doubt. The Huskers are in on him early along with the state schools, Iowa and Minnesota.
12. Quandrrius Robinson (4-Star, OLB) [Birmingham, AL] - Nebraska is in his top 4 along with three SEC schools but the home state schools Alabama and Auburn will be hard to beat. In years past it would be near impossible to get a player like this out of the south, however with the new visit rules if Nebraska can get Robinson on campus early they could make a play for him if Auburn and Bama choose to slow play his recruitment.
13. Dontae Manning (3-Star, CB) [Kansas City, MO] - Manning came to Nerbaska's junior day and left with an offer. The Huskers are high on his frame and covering ability. Nebraska and a host of Big 12 schools have already offered.
14. Jonathan Odom (NYR, TE) [Tampa, FL] - Odom has actually been in to visit Nebraska but couldn't make it to the junior day recently. He has a great frame and offers from FSU and Miami to boot. The Huskers really like him at TE if they can get him.
15. Cameron Large (3-Star, DE) [Pomfret Center, CT] - Large may have a lower rating but his offer list is already blowing up. He has offers from almost every B1G school, including Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State. He wanted it to Junior day but flight issues caused him to be grounded. He received an offer while at the air port.
16. Jalen Logan Redding (3-Star, OLB) [Columbia, MO]
17. James Frenchie (4-Star, WR) [Saint Louis, MO]
18. Marvin Mims (4-Star, WR) [Frisco, TX]
19. Michael ReddingIII (4-Star, WR) [Bradenton, FL]
20. Lawaun Powell (3-Star, WR) [East Saint Louis, IL]
21. Sam Adams II (4-Star, RB) [Sammamish, WA]
22. Blaise Gunnerson (3-Star, DE) [Carroll, IA]
23. Jeffrey Persi (3-Star, OT) [San Juan Capistrano, CA]
24. De'Rickey Wright (3-Star, ATH) [Attalla, AL]
25. Nate Matlack (3-Star, OLB) [Olathe, KS]
5 Names to Note: Reece Atteberry, DJ Rogers, Aiden Keanaaina, Jackson Bratton, Jason Harris
Plus One: Michael Redding III
