Here's the thing though, if you think he's that good, why can't he crack the Oilers defense corps? His biggest liability is his skating and the word is out. Willis of late is becoming too much of an Oilers homer (that said, he's still miles better than David Staples).

Given Edmonton’s penchant for rushing prospects through the system I’m not gonna admonish them now for having patience with a prospect.

That said, it’s hard to say “x prospect is too good to be traded for y full time NHLer” based solely on hype. Far better prospects than Bouchard have flopped in the league. The fact he is a defenceman, a much more difficult position to become exceptional at, only adds to that.

If a legit 1D is up for grabs and you have to package a prospect like him, you do it and don’t regret it for a second even if he pans out in five years. ESPECIALLY when you’re carrying an underperforming roster with two recent Hart winners lol

That trade does two things for Chicago:

1) Frees cap space, say for a goalie.

2) Opens a blue line spot, say for a d-man from a team that trades them a goalie.

So probably Doumoulin and Murray but, ya know, maybe Dermott and Andersen for 17 overall?

Not sure why Tyler Johnson would have a full no trade, but here we are

For a player who was never drafted, he's put together a very solid career. The fact that he's 30 years old and still has 3 years left at 5 shmill per season is a little daunting however.

Third item.

3) Made Chicago an exponentially faster skating team.
