I'm a Kapanen fan and I'm stunned we got that much for him.

He's fast. Very fast. But beyond that...15th overall pick AND a decent prospect? I wouldn't want to give that up for him.

I suppose one of Pit's C's can turn him into a 30 goal scorer like they have so many others though so...

He can’t hold onto a first rounder ever. He’s like a poor guy who gets $100 and has to blow through it in 30 minutes. Plus they will let Sheary walk in free agency so that boils down to him giving Kahun away for nothing.

If Jimmy Rutherford walks away after winning back-to-back Cups, he would be held in the same regard as Badger Bob as far as Penguins fans are concerned (maybe even higher).

I thought the exact same thing. Wouldn’t be the first time the Penguins did that. Baz Bastien traded a first rounder to Montreal thinking he was getting Steve Shutt. He traded for Rod Schutt lol

I'm not saying you need to win the Cup every year if you're gonna do that because that would be incredibly hard but of the 3 non-Cup years in that window they won 1 playoff round. You gotta have more than that to show for it.

The only one of those traded firsts that contributed to a Cup was for Kessel (you can argue that Perron got them Hagelin and he contributed in 16 but that pick became Barzal so...).

Yeah, not good.

We can't afford Ceci (an indictment on both his salary AND our cap situation)
Jack Hughes is NJ property
Quinn ain't going anywhere
Not everybody's boyhood team was the Leafs, doubly so when they weren't from Ontario
