It's that time of year again... where we look at the dudes who come in with no money, no guarantees and try to make a difference. Only one or two players from each walk-on class usually make a big impact (starting role) but plenty end up making an impact on special teams or to add depth, it's an important aspect of the team and this class is as solid as any I've seen in recent history for Nebraska... That includes last year's class that I thought was stellar. This one might be a bit lower than that one (because of Moses Bryant and Noah Vedral) but it will hold it's own.

I will again use a ratings system of 70 to 80, 80 being the best, 70 being the bottom.

1. Josh Wegener (OC) [JUCO] [Iowa Western] (80)
2. Sam Shurtleff (OLB) [Watkinsville, GA] (79)
3. Nick Leader (ILB) [Lincoln, NE] (79)
4. Noah Stafursky (OL) [York, NE] (79)
5. Riley Kinney (ATH) [Loveland, CO] (78)
6. Jacob Herbek (DL) [Grand Island, NE] (78)
7. Matt Huser (DL) [Omaha, NE] (77)
8. Austin Jablonski (ATH) [Lincoln, NE] (77)
9. Zach Weinmaster (RB) [Loveland, CO] (77)
10. Tyson Guzman (DB) [Omaha, NE] (76)
11. Luke Reimer (ATH) [Lincoln, NE] (76)
12. Braden Sellon (ILB) [Lincoln, NE] (76)
13. John Goodwin (TE) [Lincoln, NE] (75)
14. Caden McCormack (ILB) [Lincoln, NE] (75)
15. Brayden Miller (QB) [Kearney, NE] (75)
16. Eli Richter (OL) [Kearney, NE] (74)
17. Gabe Heins (K) [Kearney, NE] (74)
18. Garrett Hustedt (ILB) [Omaha, NE] (73)
19. Dylan Jorgensen (K) [Lincoln, NE] (73)
20. Riley Moses (OC) [Fairmont, NE] (73)
21. Cooper Jewett (RB) [Omaha, NE] (72)
22. Cam Kleinschmidt (DB) [Lincoln, NE] (72)
23. Grant Detlefsen (P) [Lincoln, NE] (71)

And yes, I did take positions into consideration

most were foregoing Division 2 offers... I think Leader and Stuffursky were the only FCS offers

Preferred simply means they are guaranteed a shot on the roster in fall camp, a non preferred walk on has to beat out the preferred walk on ons to earn a spot.

yes... all the football players do, i'm not sure if they have to pay a fee for it or not. I don't think they do.

This Shurtleff feller is intriguing holding down the #2 and 7 spots! Honestly though I think I mist this guy on the walkon front, what’s his story?

I don't know how that got mixed up... I had him at a 78 for a while but then, upon further review, at a position of need, I put him up one mark. He's got talent and the size to play at OLB in a system like this. Wouldn't surprise me if he finds his way on the field in a few years.
