I'm fine with it because of the price, 4 years at a little over $4 million per. Romo was talking about this dude getting $8-$9 million a year. He's just not worth those kind of numbers here or anywhere else. Good deal for both parties

Don't shoot the messenger. That is what was being said at end of year.

I wonder what NE would want for Butler. Not making a lot this year and if we cut or trade Romo pre-6/1 we open up a lot of money next year to pay him. Two problems. How much would we have to give up and how much would he want long term. I really like this kid.

If you want to know the difference in how teams are run. Its funny to see NE pick up a top end Offensive and defensive player and we sit here not really able to spend much on anything. Keep restructuring guys Jerry...

Another concern I have about Carroll versus Mo and Carr. For whatever reason our CBs seem to play better elsewhere lately. T New and Pac Man are STILL contributing and both seemed like their careers were done when they left here a while back (and I'm only addressing on the field with Pac Man). So do our DBs play below their peak in our system or with our poor pass rush? If so what will that mean for Carroll who is 30yo? Will he get burnt even more? Will Mo and Carr become better players elsewhere and are really better than they seem for us? There is just a lot to worry about to me. If we bring back either Mo or Carr I'll be fine with what we did because it will push Carroll to a reserve role or make him earn his PT, but right now I am concerned. I don't want to go into the season with Carroll as one of our top 3 CBs, but do like him as a #4. I get we can go there early in the draft it could be ideal but you cannot bank on a draft pick contributing year 1.

Coach Rod will coach him up, as was the case with last years DB's

Please don't let them near Jerry lol. We'd end up with Butler, they'd end up with Zeke

If we bring back Carr or Claiborne I'll be OK with the way things have gone. It gives us some insurance and lessens the necessity of drafting day one starters.

Paea hopefully surprises. Any idea what kind of cap space we have left?

I don't understand the Moore signing. The Butler and wiliam signing appear to be good. They seem to be on the same page with dak. Carril looks like depth

So we lost Wilcox and Free today as well. I'm by no means a pessimistic, but this offseason is getting annoying. How many more players will we lose.

Not gonna miss free. The last few years, he has been awful. Won't cry over Wilcox either. His poor tackling and coverage mistakes won't be missed. Changes to this secondary needed to be made. I think it was a year too late. In the long run, I believe we will have better players in the secondary then last year. It could not get much worse IMO. We just guaranteed five less drive killing penalties with free gone.

Free was still stability. Not gonna be that easy to replace.

I'm with you. Both were solid, but if you really want them at the prices they are going for? Replaceable pieces INO

I have felt Free was less than average for a few years now, but I do think he was a great guy and a good teammate. So I always appreciated that part of what he brought especially with so many young guys on the OL over the last couple of years. I think we can replace him on the field with a journeyman type without missing much of a beat if Green isn't ready, but I do think the stability and clubhouse guy will be missed. Good luck Free in whatever the future brings you:suds:

$4M a year is just too much for Wilcox. Good Luck to him, but I'm glad we didn't match that contract. So now let's hope the team finds a starting safety who can play in the box but also cover a little somewhere.

Holy Crap. Don't we have a spare part like McCarron lying around???

ESPN's Rich Cimini believes the Jets would "consider" trading Sheldon Richardson for Bengals QB A.J. McCarron.

This has been a popular rumor for some time and is gaining more traction now that Brian Hoyer and Mike Glennon have signed elsewhere. The Bengals would have to sweeten the pot by throwing in a draft pick, but at least on paper, a deal would make sense for both sides. Outside of Cleveland, the Jets might be the most quarterback-needy team in football and McCarron would probably be more appealing than a declining veteran like Jay Cutler. With McCarron set to become a restricted free agent in 2018, flipping him for a stud like Richardson would be a no-brainer for Cincinnati. It's likely nothing will come of these rumblings but the rebuilding Jets need to consider all possibilities.
