Tigers TIED for third place. A .500 ballclub.

I pay top dollar to come to this site to get THE BEST of AL Central predictions from SUPPOSEDLY one of the top baseball minds/number crunchers of our times, and what do I get? A prediction of Detroit Tiger dominance by a bozo who claims greatness....but is proving himself to be a hack and a homer!!!! As shocking and disappointing as it is....I am coming to realize that dougplayer doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground about baseball or any sport! Shocking!!! I have been deceived.(Heavy Sigh)

Abreu, Shields, Rodon... be back soon.
Surprised Abreu is playing today after seeing how he essentially did the splits the other day. Hope they didn't rush him back since he's been playing well recently.

He never even wanted to leave that game to begin with, if you noticed. Injury was described as a very minor hip flexor strain. I don't think they'd mess around this early in the season if it was anything remotely serious.

No one thought Avi Gargica would be the best hitter in the AL, but it's so early. As you mentioned the other day, every game counts. Beating your division is key. Last year the Sox were hot in April too then imploded.

Do the Sox trade him along with Frazier, Quintana and Robertson, or do they keep Abreu as part of the team's core going forward? Slightly older, and certainly expensive and has trade value.

Eh... This is a fun little start to the season, but we're playing quite a bit above our heads right now. Derrek Holland and Miguel Gonzalez aren't going to hold a sub 2.00 ERA all season. The bullpen has been phenomenal, but the hard contact rate against them says it's a bit lucky.

Pitching should come back to Earth, and there's a few too many holes in the lineup to keep it up. We are certainly more formidable than I expected, as I thought it was nearly a foregone conclusion that we'd lose around 90 games. Now I think we could hover around .500, and maybe even stick around in the Central into the All-Star break.

Who knows though... maybe this is really Avi's breakout season, and we can continue to get timely hitting from the rest of the lineup? Maybe the pitching doesn't drop off as much as I expect? Maybe some of our young guys like Moncada and Kopech come up and give us an additional boost?

I could be wrong, but it's hard to get optimistic with this ball club after all of the times they've let us down over the past 7-8 years. I still am anticipating that losing streak that puts us under .500 for good. After starting 23-10 and going in the toilet last season, getting my hopes up again is a dangerous proposition. Talk to me in June...

Regardless, this should be a lot more fun than the last handful of seasons. Finally going with the youth movement and rebuild we should have kick-started a long time ago. Not having any expectations and watching young guys develop is more fun, than being told every year by the organization that they're going to contend... only to watch them repeatedly fall on their faces.
